"Two years after the Empire had been declared, the Barabel Senator Sanver was found to have secreted three fugitive Padawans in his private quarters."
―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[2]

Sanver was a Barabel Imperial senator who hid three fugitive Jedi in his private quarters during the Great Jedi Purge. When this was discovered in 17 BBY, Sanver and the three Jedi were executed by the Inquisitorius.

Biography[]

"When this deception was discovered, Sanver and the three Knights were swiftly executed by the Inquisitorius, but Palpatine seized on this event to detach all anti-Jedi operations from the political wing of his Empire."
―Beaumont Kin, The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[2]

Sanver was a Barabel (pictured).

Sanver was a Barabel senator in the Imperial Senate of the Galactic Empire. For a long time, Barabel culture revered the Jedi Order, and during the Empire's Great Jedi Purge, the senator secreted three fugitive Jedi Padawans that had survived Order 66 within his private quarters. By the time this deception was discovered[2] in 17 BBY,[1] the three fugitives were Jedi Knights, but Sanver and all three of the Jedi were swiftly executed by the Empire's Inquisitorius, a group of Jedi-hunters.[2]

Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine used the event to detach his ongoing anti-Jedi operations from the political wing of the Empire, allowing the Inquistorius to act anywhere in the galaxy with only authorization from its own leadership. Sanver's involvement also further brought into question the loyalty of non-humans to the Empire. A file on Sanver was stored in "The Inquisitorius" section of the Imperial Archives and the historian Beaumont Kin cited it while mentioning Sanver in[2] his[3] book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire[2] in 35 ABY.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

Sanver was mentioned in the 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, which was written by Dr. Chris Kempshall.[2]
