- "The Sarkans live underground—it's where they do their gem mining."
- ―Luke Skywalker, to C-3PO
Sarka was the homeworld of the Sarkans, a species of bipedal, egg-laying reptiles. The Sarkans often wore bright, colorful robes, and their economy was based around trading the gems they mined. The Sarkans were ruled by a monarchy, which during the Galactic Civil War was led by Queen Zil, who was served by her advisor Lord Rooz. Sarkan culture was heavily based around an ever-changing array of protocols, and visitors to the world were expected to be polite and knowledgeable of the current customs. The most important one of these rules was believed by C-3PO to be the one that forbade any Sarkan from standing on the Royal Seal.
