Smuggler Chick with Sword FC

A female Human scoundrel

"You like me because I'm a scoundrel. There aren't enough scoundrels in your life."
Han Solo[1]

"Scoundrel" was a term used for individuals who were considered rogues by the galactic mainstream society.[1]

During the years of the Great Galactic War and the Cold War that followed it circa 3653 BBY, the term scoundrel referred to a particular breed of smuggler who fought for the Galactic Republic. These scoundrels were known for their unpredictability, skill, and underhandedness in combat.[2] During the last years of the "Great Peace" of the Republic, Senator Palpatine told Jedi Master Dooku, who was considering leaving the Jedi Order, that he could not expect himself, as one man, to fix a galaxy he defined as being full of scoundrels. Unaware that he was being manipulated into eventually becoming Palpatine's Sith apprentice, Dooku bluntly told Palpatine that the believed one man, if powerful enough, should be able to stand against those scoundrels.[3]

The term "scoundrel" was first referred to in this context in The Empire Strikes Back when Princess Leia admits to Han Solo that she considers him all right when he's not "acting like a scoundrel". Han likes this description, the encounter leading the couple to kiss.

The scoundrel is a hero class in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game and the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords video games. The class is characterized by having many skill points, but very few Vitality Points or Feats. The class also receives the "Sneak Attack" and "Scoundrel's Luck" line of feats for free. While sneak attack focuses on increased damage for a stealth-based opening attack, "Scoundrel's Luck" passively increases their defense points allowing for higher dodge chances. Many consider it to be an "expert class." The Star Wars Roleplaying Game Revised Core Rulebook grants scoundrels similar abilities.

In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic the scoundrel is one of the three non-Jedi starting classes (alongside soldier and scout) that the player could choose.

The scoundrel is an advanced class for the smuggler class in Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO video game. This advanced class can specialize in Scrapper, Sawbones (healing), or dirty fighting, the use of a blaster, Scatter gun, stealth, and combat medicine.[2] The Imperial counterpart for this archetype is the operative.[4]
