- "I want every star sector and planetary emergency retaliation plan in the building ready for presentation by midnight."
- ―Major Lio Partagaz to his fellow ISB officers
A sector, also known as a star sector,[1] was an area of space or land framed by an artificial, conventional boundary.
A planetary sector contained a number of solar systems.[2] Sectors were also regional political divisions.[3] The galaxy was divided into a little over 1,000 sectors.[4] Under the rule of the Galactic Empire there existed 1,024 individual regional sectors[5] which were placed under the authority of a Moff, or sector governor. Several sectors could be regrouped into an Oversector governed by a Grand Moff.[2]
The boundaries of sectors overseen by supervisors of the Imperial Security Bureau were created by Major Lio Partagaz.[6]
Specific surface areas of a planetary body could also be partitioned into sectors. During the Clone Wars, the Confederacy of Independent Systems divided their territory on Anaxes into sectors, including Sector One.[7] The Outer Rim world of Batuu transported refuse from Black Spire Outpost to Sector 3263827.[8]
