A deep-space sensor array.
Sensor arrays were standard and vitally essential equipment found aboard nearly all starships in the galaxy. The arrays used miniaturized processors to gather data recorded by the ship's sensors and then compile it using the main sensor computer. The data assists the starship's crew in a range of activities, such as plotting navigation routes or scanning other vessels.[1]
Larger arrays had the form of space structures.
Sensor array stations were manufactured by Arakyd Industries. They were common sector scanning units and relay systems used by the Galactic Empire to spy and report any activity in their vicinity.
Arrays were found next to their Control Station, another structure.
Prior to the Battle of Endor, with various skirmishes at sensor arrays throughout the galaxy, the Rebels managed to misguide Imperial intelligence and proceeded to attack without opposition against IOS 24 in order to allow an escape to the Outer Rim.
