The First Order's Starkiller Base superweapon was patrolled by many units of a squat, white plated model of sentry droid around thirty years after the Battle of Endor. These droids possessed a square or circular head with several antennae protruding from the top, which sat on a body with four short legs ending in rolling casters that allowed the sentries to move easily through the base interiors. Sentry droids also patrolled the corridors of the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Finalizer.[2] They also had a series of armaments equipped inside of them, including four tasers and two blasters. These armaments folded out of the droid's chassis as its head extended upwards.[5] One sentry droid used these armaments to attack Resistance pilot Poe Dameron and spy Kazuda Xiono on Station Theta Black, though it was ultimately destroyed.[6] Three sentry droids patrol in the supertanker fuel depot Titan.[7]
Behind the scenes[]
The First Order's sentry droids first appeared in the film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, which was released in 2015.[8] They were not named in the film, but were identified as sentry droids in the reference book Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo and released in conjunction with the film.[source?]
The fold-out armaments of the droid first were first depicted in the 2017 video game Star Wars Battlefront II, where it can be deployed as an ability of Captain Phasma.[5] However, they were originally designed for "Station Theta Black"[9]—the eleventh episode of Star Wars Resistance's first season—which would not premiere until one year later on December 9, 2018.[10]
The droid's entry in the Databank erroneously states that the droids' only appearance is in Resistance,[11] despite its appearances in the Sequel trilogy[8] and Battlefront II.[5]
