The Sewers of Coruscant were a complex of sewers located on Coruscant. The sewers were connected to various buildings on Coruscant and had entrances in them, such as the one in Xizor's Palace. They were heavily guarded by the Red Guard corps. Dianogas inhabited the waters of the sewers. A giant dianoga was rumored to inhabit one of the main chambers.
Prior to the Battle over Coruscant, Luke Skywalker, Dash Rendar, Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, and Benedict Vidkun used the sewers to access Xizor's Palace.
Behind the scenes[]
The sewers appear for first time in all the narratives of the Shadows of the Empire multimedia project. The video game deviates on the course of events, showing the Millennium Falcon and the Outrider flying and landing through the series; then the team splits up throughout the tunnels to look for Leia; Dash Rendar instead places some pulse bombs as a diversion for their escape.
3d artist Bill Stoneham created 3d concept art for the sewers before their inclusion in the Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire video game. Originally they would be Gothic-like with rib vaults and Gargoyles, taking inspiration from the sewers of the Phantom of the Opera.[1]
Texture artist Chris Hockabout was inspired from a boat trip around the dark, mazelike sewers of Prague he took some years earlier.[1]
