Shadow lurkers were strange, vagely humanoid-shaped creatures, apparently made of dark and surrounded by mast. They were natural scavengers inhabiting only the depths of repair station Darkside, an asteroid in the Cularin system asteroid belt.
The shadow lurkers fed on power cells, including the ones in blaster weapons and ships, but for some reason they feared the cells in lightsabers. To perform this "feeding", they simply had to touch the item with the power cell.
The lurkers could be harmed with traditional attacks, including blaster fire. They also disappeared when exposed to a bright light. This is why they could not reach the station's hangar to feed on the ships.
The shadow lurkers might be related to the strange, moving "green room" in the depths of the Darkside corridors.
As of 32 BBY, most of the people in Darkside thought the lurkers a mere legend, although young criminal Jasper was afraid of them (Jasper's blaster had a feeble power cell that did not tempt the lurkers), and Karlo the cook had heard a lot of stories about them.
