A shield gauntlet was a small personal shield worn on the off-hand which could be used to absorb and even deflect energy weapons and shots. The gauntlet accomplished this by projecting a small energy shield, similar in function to that of a Gungan personal energy shield. The shield's diameter was less than a meter and typically took on the appearance of a convex energy disc which was usually either tinted blue or transparent.

With the proper training, shield gauntlets could be used to deflect blaster fire. It was also possible to redirect the deflected bolts to strike other targets.

Shield gauntlets were used by the Kilian Rangers, both for defensive purposes and to remind themselves and others of the other half of their oaths: to defend themselves and their families.

Around 20 BBY, during the battle of Sundari, renegade Death Watch members, led by Bo-Katan Kryze and mostly consisting of members of the Nite Owls, used shield gauntlets to protect themselves from Mandalorian super commandos. During a firefight between the two groups, several members of Death Watch activated the gauntlets in order to protect against the blaster fire of the commandos.
