Shock troopers were a special type of military personnel used by various organizations throughout the galaxy. They usually served as police or elite soldiers reserved for operations requiring speed and skill. Some shock troopers, such as those commanded by the Togorian Kr'saang, acted as mercenaries.

Clone shock troopers were elite soldiers of the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. They were led by Clone Commander CC-1010, and later CC-4477 by the end of the war. As members of the Coruscant Guard, a military police unit stationed in the capital world of the Galactic Republic, clone shock troopers had the authority to conduct random inspections on civilians in order to discover and detain Separatist spies or sympathizers.
