A Clone shock trooper.

Shock troopers were a special type of military personnel used by various organizations throughout the galaxy. They usually served as police or elite soldiers reserved for operations requiring speed and skill. Some shock troopers, such as those commanded by the Togorian Kr'saang, acted as mercenaries.

Clone shock troopers were elite soldiers of the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. They were led by Clone Commanders Fox, Thorn, and later Thire by the end of the war. As members of the Coruscant Guard, a military police unit stationed in the capital world of the Galactic Republic, clone shock troopers had the authority to conduct random inspections on civilians in order to discover and detain Separatist spies or sympathizers.

The shock troopers fought alongside the Jedi Order and other clone troopers in the Battle of Coruscant in 19 BBY, in which they ultimately repelled the Separatist invaders from the Republic capital. Their services were retained by the Republic's successor state, the Galactic Empire, under the reign of Emperor Palpatine, where they served as Imperial stormtroopers of the Stormtrooper Corps. Though the Coruscant Guard remained composed of shock troopers, it was no longer exclusively composed of clones. Under the New Order, enlisted Humans were recruited into the Guard's ranks and trained as Imperial shock troopers.
