Shuura was a type of edible fruit[2] that had green and red skin and light green flesh. It tapered from a wide base to a more narrow top.[1] In 22 BBY,[3] the humans Padmé Amidala and Anakin Skywalker were served shuura and other fruits while dining together in Varykino Villa on the planet Naboo. Skywalker used the Force to lift a shuura from Amidala's plate and move it to his own, where he cut a slice from it using a knife and fork and then floated the slice back. Laughing, Amidala caught the slice on her fork and ate it.[1]

The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs would use anything from shuura to jogan fruit alongside shi-shok when making his Shi-Shok Fruit Bowls depending on what was in season. He noted this in the recipe that he included for the fruit salad in his cook book The Life Day Cookbook, which he released at some point after his first book's release[2] in 34 ABY.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

In the new Star Wars canon, shuura first appeared in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, a prequel trilogy film[1] released on May 16, 2002.[5] The scene was filmed on July 19, 2000 on Stage 4 at Fox Studios and used some fruits supplied by the film's art department.[6] The fruit was then named in canon by the 2021 cook book Star Wars: The Life Day Cookbook, which was written by Jenn Fujikawa and Marc Sumerak.[2] The name was first used prior to the film's release in the Star Wars Legends novelization of Episode II, which was written by R. A. Salvatore[7] and released on April 23, 2002.[5]
