- "The guardian beasts called tuk'ata stand watch over the tombs and protect them from desecration. They have long been the royal companions of Sith Kings."
- ―Extract from Jen'jidai Sorzus Syn's titular chronicle
"Sith King" was a title traditionally held by certain rulers of the Sith species prior to the arrival of the Dark Jedi Exiles to Korriban in 6900 BBY[2] at the end of the Hundred-Year Darkness.[3]
Due to the kratocratic cultural mores of the Sith people,[4] Sith Kings were generally among the most powerful Force users of their times and often engaged in protracted campaigns of conquest against their rivals.[5] Many Sith Kings were protected by tuk'ata Sithspawn companions in life and death,[1] buried in such sacred locations as the Valley of the Sleeping Kings[1] and the Valley of Golg.[5]
Among the most notable Sith Kings were Adas,[6][7] Dathka Graush,[5] and Hakagram Graush,[1] the latter of whom was the last to have held the title prior to the formal establishment of the Sith Empire by the Exiles.[1] The title fell out of widespread usage in the years that followed, replaced by the equivalent title Jen'ari meaning "Dark Lord of the Sith" in the Sith language.[4][8]
Behind the scenes[]
Though Sith holding the title of "king" have appeared in the Legends continuity since 1996's Tales of the Jedi Companion, the term "Sith King" was first employed as a fully capitalized title on page 118 of the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas and on page 142 of the 2010 sourcebook The Unknown Regions. It first saw usage as a proper noun in its own right on page 37 of the 2012 reference book Book of Sith: Secrets from the Dark Side.
