Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, a skirmish took place on the Hutt crime lord Graballa's flagship Rancor's Fist. Graballa had captured Rowan Freemaker and Roger after the two had traveled to his mining facility in the Belgaroth asteroid field to retrieve a Kyber Saber crystal. When Rowan refused to help Graballa obtain more crystals, the Hutt tried to feed him and Roger to his pet nexu Smiley. However, his older siblings Kordi, Zander Freemaker, and the undercover Sith Naare managed to rescue him and fled into the asteroid field. Naare managed to use her Force powers to destroy most of their pursuers. Later, Rowan found the Kyber Saber crystal floating in the asteroid field.

Prelude[]

Following a salvage mission to Nal Kapok, the undercover Sith agent Naare convinced the Force-sensitive Rowan Freemaker that she could train him to be a Jedi. She also enlisted the boy's help in finding the pieces of the Kyber Saber, the first lightsaber.[1] While training Rowan, she got the boy to use his Force powers to probe for a Kyber Saber crystal on a holomap. Through the Force, Rowan sensed that the crystal was in the Belgaroth asteroid field.[3]

Rowan and Naare made preparations to leave but were stopped by Rowan's older sister Kordi Freemaker. While the adults argued, Rowan tricked the B1-series battle droid Roger into evacuating the Wheel with him by claiming that there was a reactor leak. Rowan and Roger left on one of Zander Freemaker's Z-wing fighters and headed to the Belgaroth asteroid field.[3]

Rowan and Roger traveled to a mining facility. Rowan managed to find the second Kyber Saber crystal after navigating through the Hutt crime lord Graballa's mining complex and narrowly escaping death in a molten vault. The two visitors were soon picked up by Graballa's bounty hunters Baash and Raam, who mistook them for prospective bounty hunters. Baash and Raam brought the two visitors to Graballa's flagship Rancor's Fist. Meanwhile, Zander, Kordi, and Naare traveled to the Belgaroth system to rescue Rowan and Roger.[3]

The skirmish[]

Hutt entanglements[]

Rowan and Roger's visit to the Belgaroth asteroid field coincided with Graballa's business venture to start up a beachside resort and buffet. Graballa had appealed to his cousin Jabba for a loan but the Hutt crime lord had rejected his business venture. Posing as bounty hunters, Rowan and Roger tried to bluff their way out by bidding to be Graballa's new hunters. However, they were quickly trounced by Graballa's leading bounty hunter Dengar. Graballa soon learned about Rowan's Kyber Saber crystal and demanded that the boy show him how to get more.[3]

When Rowan refused to cooperate, Graballa had him and Roger chained and lowered into a trapdoor where his pet nexu Smiley was waiting. Before Smiley could devour them, Kordi and Zander entered and pretended to be salespersons selling a Z-wing. Meanwhile, Naare snuck into the room and use a mind trick to convince Baash and Raam to take a nap. She then used her Force powers to nudge Rowan and Roger away from the trap door before freeing them from their chains. The three then prepared to sneak away but were spotted by Graballa, who rejected the sale of the Z-wing.[3]

Asteroid chase[]

With their cover blown, the Freemakers and Naare fled the Rancor's Fist aboard the Z-wing with Roger clinging on to the stabilizing fin for dear life. In the process, the Freemakers created a hole in the Rancor's Fist walls. Only Graballa's big mass prevented his entourage and henchmen from being sucked out into zero gravity space. However, the second Kyber Saber crystal was sucked out. Graballa then send Dengar and his henchmen to pursue the intruders.[3]

During the pursuit, the Z-wing's shield couplings were knocked out and Kordi struggled to repair them. Naare then used her Force powers to clear a path through the asteroid field and hurl the asteroids at Graballa's starsfighters. As a result, several of Graballa's starfighters were destroyed. Dengar narrowly escaped death while Naare's actions won over Kordi, who had previously distrusted Naare.[3]

Aftermath[]

Following the skirmish on the Rancor's Fist, Rowan apologized to his older siblings for running away and causing them trouble. He also apologized to Naare for causing her to lose the second Kyber Saber crystal. Naare, who was listening to the conversation aboard her ship Eclipse Fighter, was overcome by rage and tried to destroy the StarScavenger. However, Rowan suddenly sensed the second crystal nearby. As a result, Naare "forgave" her young apprentice.[3]

Due to his encounter with Rowan, Graballa decided that he could use the Kyber Saber crystals to bankroll his beachside resort and buffet. He tasked his bounty hunters Dengar, Baash and Raam with recovering the mysterious "boy." Graballa still did not know Rowan's name let alone where he lived.[3] Denagar and his fellow bounty hunter's search for the boy led them to Cloud City and subsequently the Wheel .[5]
