Skywalker wine was a beverage that shared its name with the Skywalker family.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- "I always thought Skywalker name was somewhat unique? [Sic]"
"No, no, no, there's even the Skywalker wine." - ―Jon Stewart and George Lucas at Celebration V
Star Wars creator George Lucas first mentioned Skywalker wine during Celebration V, when asked by Jon Stewart about the rarity of the name Skywalker, as an example of the name's relative ubiquity.[2]
This was likely intended as a reference to Francis Ford Coppola's Viandante del Cielo ("Walker of the Sky" in Italian) wine, which is made from grapes grown on Skywalker Ranch.[3] While Lucas also likely intended the existence of actual Skywalker wine in-universe to be a joke, Leland Chee, keeper of the Holocron continuity database, added it as a canonical beverage to the database.[1]
As shown in Jon Favreau's Instagram account, George Lucas visited the filming set as a birthday surprise for him during production of The Mandalorian. In one of Favreau's photos, it could be seen him and Lucas resting on a table with a bottle of wine with "Skywalker" written on it, suggesting that the Skywalker wine has been actually made from since.[4]
