- "All pilots, keep clear of these things. They pack a wallop!"
- ―Jaina Solo
The slayer ship was a Yuuzhan Vong starfighter created for the use of Supreme Overlord Shimrra Jamaane's Slayers in the final year of the Yuuzhan Vong War.
Characteristics[]
In appearance, the Slayer ships were made up of three yorik coral triangles, joined from apex to base. The leading two had mica-like canopies, while the third and largest had a "tail" at the back, possibly to complement dovin basal propulsion.
Such dovin basals enabled the ship to enter hyperspace, a feat that standard coralskippers lacked; while the singularity defense could swallow four times the incoming attacks a normal coralskipper could deal with.
In six extensions on each side of the ship were held yaret-kors. One direct hit of plasma from such a ship could reduce a fully charged XJ3 X-wing deflector shield down to fifty percent.
History[]
Developed by Master Shaper Qelah Kwaad, the vessel was the Yuuzhan Vong analog of a heavy assault fighter. The vessels were also larger than the standard coralskipper, and some possessed passenger compartments.
The vessel's appearance reminded some members of Twin Suns Squadron of an Azuran stingcrawler—stingcrawler thus became the pilot slang to identify them—but Twin Suns leader Jaina Solo felt they bore more resemblance to the voxyn, creatures shaped to hunt Jedi.
While their design similarity to the voxyn may have been accidental, it is possible that Supreme Overlord Shimrra purposefully gave the Slayers exclusive use of the vessel as an insult to the Jedi, as the Slayers were shaped specifically to fight the Jedi. However, rumors indicated the Slayer ships were indeed created with voxyn genes, in order to give them rudimentary Force-sensitivity.[2]
