"The 'signature' on the spice on Lom's portrait helped our sniffer droids and hound teams track down contraband at the 1313 docks."
―From the notes of Tanivos Divo[1]

Sniffer droids were a type of droid used by the Coruscant Security Force to locate contraband on the planet Coruscant. After a portrait of the criminal Pyke Syndicate capo Lom Pyke was discovered during an investigation of Galactic Republic Senator Yudrish Sedran in 7941 C.R.C., the unique traceable markers of spice found in the portrait's canvas helped the security force's sniffer droids and hound teams track down contraband on the docks of Coruscant's Level 1313.[1]

Coruscant Security Force Inspector Tanivos Divo wrote about the sniffer droids used in the investigation in his case files, with the portion mentioning the droids later published by Divo's grandson, Exantor Divo, in his book, Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious,[1] in 34 ABY.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Sniffer droids were mentioned in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[1]

  2. The latest entries chronologically in Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious are dated to 8011 (C.R.C. date) and gives 7977 (C.R.C. date) as the year that the secret mission to Tatooine took place. As Star Wars: Galactic Atlas dates the mission to Tatooine to 0 BBY, 8011 C.R.C. must therefore correspond to around 34 ABY. Scum and Villainy also mentions Hosnian Prime as still being capital of the New Republic, meaning the in-universe Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious must have been published prior to the destruction of the planet, which Galactic Atlas dates to 34 ABY. As the publishing must have occurred between the time of the latest entries and the destruction of Hosnian Prime, it therefore also took place around 34 ABY.
