- "Dreadnaught Parjai, return the captures to the South Orbital Area for processing. You, too, Gratua. I don't have all day."
- ―Cassus Fett
Located in the planet Taris's orbit,[2] the South Orbital Area was a staging area used around 3963 BBY by the Mandalorian Neo-Crusader warriors during their siege of the world as part of the galaxy-wide Mandalorian Wars. During the siege, two aerial, Basilisk war droid–riding Neo-Crusader patrols directed the gunship Moomo Williwaw to be taken to the staging area.[1]
The starship's passengers, including Jedi Padawan Zayne Carrick, were attempting to meet with the local resistance and did not want to be discovered by the Mandalorians. Demagol, a rogue Mandalorian accompanying Carrick under false pretenses, was piloting the Williwaw and convinced the patrols that the ship did need not to be diverted by feigning ignorance as a Mandalorian drafted from the front lines and unfamiliar with local operations.[1] Later, the leader of Taris's Neo-Crusader forces at the time, Cassus Fett, ordered the Kandosii-type dreadnaughts Parjai and Gratua to also take[2] starships[1] captured by the Mandalorians to the South Orbital Area.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The staging area was first indirectly mentioned in the twenty-second issue of the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comic book series, which was written by John Jackson Miller and published by Dark Horse Comics[1] on November 7, 2007.[3] It was first identified as the South Orbital Area in the series' following issue, which was also written by Miller[2] and published on November 28 of the same year.[4]
