Special forces were elite fighting units. The New Republic sent a special forces team led by Jom Barell to investigate suspected Imperial activity on Akiva sometime after the Battle of Endor.[1]
Organizations
Alliance to Restore the Republic
- "Marines, pathfinders, urban guerrillas, techs, wilderness fighters, heavy weapons specialists, and infiltrators make up Special Forces. We infiltrate. We exfiltrate. We go in first and strike from cover. We do this better than the Empire, and that is how we'll win this war."

The Alliance to Restore the Republic maintained the Rebel Alliance Special Forces,[2] a branch of the Alliance Military.[3] Consisting of pathfinders,[4] Rebel Marines, and Rebel Commandos, the Alliance Special Forces served in various battlefronts.[5]
Confederacy of Independent Systems
The Confederacy of Independent Systems utilized specialized battle droids as special forces units, including BX-series droid commandos, during the Clone Wars.[6]
First Order
The First Order maintained the First Order Special Forces as part of its military forces.[7] Members of the First Order Special Forces included Special Forces pilots[8] who piloted TIE/sf space superiority fighters,[9] as well as elite stormtroopers who utilized elite speeder bikes.[10]
Galactic Empire

The Galactic Empire maintained various special forces units throughout its military and intelligence branches.[11] The Imperial Special Forces was one such organization,[12] which included members such as Inferno Squad,[13] the 204th Imperial Fighter Wing,[14] and Task Force 99.[15] Other special forces units included CompForce and Special Forces Command.[11] Special Unit One was an elite starfighter squadron,[16] and Imperial Intelligence utilized elite death troopers.[17] Purge Troopers were elite soldiers that operated under the Inquisitorius.[18]
Galactic Republic
The Galactic Republic made use of various special and elite units during the Clone Wars. Clone commandos,[19] Advanced Recon Commandos, Biker Advanced Recon Commandos, and Advanced Recon Force Scout Troopers[20] were greatly employed, with units including Foxtrot Group, D-Squad,[21] Delta Squad,[22] and Clone Force 99.[23] The 41st Ranger Platoon was also an elite unit within the 41st Elite Corps.[24][25]
New Republic
The New Republic maintained a military branch, the New Republic Special Forces, which was formed from the Alliance Special Forces.[1]
