- "Anto Kreegyr. I want you to meet him."
"[Chuckles] Anto Kreegyr?"
"He's been probing the Imperial power station at Spellhaus. He's found a weakness in the defenses. It may take some time to work up, but he's got an angle." - ―Luthen Rael and Saw Gerrera
The Spellhaus attack,[6] named the Spellhaus Operation in the Imperial Archives,[7] was a raid launched against the Spellhaus Imperial power station[2] by the insurgent leader Anto Kreegyr, a former member of the Confederacy of Independent Systems,[3] with thirty[1] or fifty[5] insurgents from his rebel cell,[1] in 5 BBY.[4] Luthen Rael had attempted to recruit the Partisans into the effort and asked them to provide air support, but Partisan leader Saw Gerrera refused to put his soldiers at risk for another group.[3] By the time Gerrera had changed his mind, the Imperial Security Bureau had learned of the attack, forcing Rael and Gerrera to agree to let Kreegyr and his men fall into the trap. They reasoned such a sacrifice would give the rest of the rebellion an opening and protect Rael's ISB spy, Lonni Jung. Rael was nearly captured during an ensuing skirmish above Segra Milo but escaped.[1] As such, the raid ended in a complete failure for Kreegyr's forces, which were destroyed. To the Empire, the victory was a way to recover from a prior rebel attack on Aldhani, much to the disapproval of ISB Supervisor Dedra Meero, who believed that capturing prisoners who might've had valuable information was ignored.[2]
The Spellhaus attack was reflected upon by historian Beaumont Kin in his book The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, including the discrepancy between how many rebels actually took part in the raid. From Kin's research, Gerrera's records suggested Kreegyr had led thirty rebels to Spellhaus, whereas Rebel Alliance archives suggested the higher number of fifty personnel. No matter the death count, Kin believed the attack was an example of the Empire acting in its traditional manner: using violence to send a message, no matter how useful the dozens of potential prisoners would have proven. Furthermore, Kin uncovered the quote "wipe the taste of Aldhani from the Emperor's mouth" in ISB records and believed it was a reflection of how bruised Emperor Sheev Palpatine's ego must have been by resistance to his rule.[7]
