- "Forty-two individual islands, each representing a key member of the Republic. Here visitors will be able to experience everything that the Republic has to offer, from the golden beaches of Spira and island spires of Bestine, to the bustling markets of Jaresh and fashion emporiums of Alderaan."
- ―Samera Ra-oon
Spira was a tropical planet known for its golden beaches that was located in the Galactic Core.
Description[]
Spira was a tropical planet[2] located in the Galactic Core.[1] Its golden beaches[3] made it a location where individuals would vacation[2] or own mansions. During the Imperial Era, Spira played host to a biannual antiques auction that typically included a variety of one-of-a-kind items.[1]
History[]
During the High Republic Era, Spira was a key member of the Galactic Republic and received a sky-island at the Republic Fair on the planet Valo.[3] Between 3 ABY and 4 ABY[4] Rebel Alliance agent Amilyn Holdo made an arrangement with her friend who had a mansion on Spira that allowed her to spend time at the residence alongside her friend Leia Organa and her allies Chewbacca, Lando Calrissian, Lobot, and Luke Skywalker. The group later attended an auction on the planet and attempted to bid for a Nihil strikeship, wanting to secure the ship's Path engine as an asset for the Rebellion. After losing the auction, the group stole the Path engine from the winning bidder, the curator for the Galactic Museum on the Imperial capital planet Coruscant, they later were attacked by Imperial TIE fighters, which destroyed the mansion and pursued the group in Holdo's ship, the Skyfarer. As they attempted to leave Spira's atmosphere and make their escape by jumping to hyperspace, the Path engine activated and made the ship jump prior to safely leaving the atmosphere, sending the ship into No-Space.[5] The Resistance pilot Poe Dameron once took a vacation there, and was reminded of it when tasting a drink at an auction hosted by Nifera Shu on Corellia.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
Spira was first mentioned in the theme park attraction Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.[6] It was originally created for the 1994 Star Wars Legends roleplaying adventure The Spira Regatta.[7]
A preliminary excerpt of the novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi identified Spira as the homeworld of the saberfish.[8] However, the final novel instead stated they were from Tibrin.[9]
