Star Wars: Card Trader is an Android and iOS app released by The Topps Company, Inc. on March 12, 2015. The app allows users to create an account and collect digital trading cards of Star Wars characters.
Digital Art Director Neil Kleid described the variety of cards available in the app stating, "Between all these different kinds of sets, we're trying to please every kind of different Star Wars fan in some way. Everyone has their own Star Wars."[1]
Producer Steve Ciccarelli explained what the appeal was stating, "The appeal is you can have the entire Star Wars galaxy on your phone. I think about it like music. I don't want to lug my record collection with me everywhere, but I have it on my phone all the time. I enjoy it even more because I have better access to it. There are so many other things that we can do digitally than we can't do with physical cards. There's endless possibility."[1]
Alongside the app, Topps later released a real-life trading card set.
