"The book begins one second after the end of Revenge of the Sith. Darth Vader is in the armored suit that we see throughout the rest of his life, most of his life. He is just awakening to that moment and that realization. So he has shouted No! in the way we see in the film, and then it picks up immediately after that point. So we see him adjusting to that. We see him learning to be more machine than man. We see him going through some really, really cool early moments of his early mythology and history.'"
―Charles Soule[1]

Star Wars: Darth Vader, alternatively titled Star Wars: Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith, is a canonical comic book series written by Charles Soule, with art from Giuseppe Camuncoli, that was published by Marvel Comics on June 7, 2017 as a second volume of the 2015 series of the same name. On December 18, 2018, the series ended with its 25th issue.

Beginning during the events of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith directly after Darth Vader discovers that his wife, Padmé Amidala, has died, the series chronicles Vader going on various missions across the galaxy, all the while hunting the few surviving Jedi alongside his band of dark side apprentices known as the Inquisitorius.

The series, along with the original 2015 comic line, eventually received a relaunch in the form of the 2020 Darth Vader comic series, which focuses on Vader's adventures in between the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

  3. Darth Vader (2017) 1 begins during the ending of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, which is set in 19 BBY, so we can assume that the series takes place during that year from the first issue until Darth Vader (2017) 12, as Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition states that the Invasion of Mon Cala, which starts Darth Vader (2017) 13, takes place in 18 BBY. From Darth Vader (2017) 23 onwards, the last issues of the series revolve around the construction of Fortress Vader, which is stated by Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary to take place forty-six years before the Starkiller Incident, thus setting it in 12 BBY.
