Star Wars: The High Republic: The Edge of Balance is a canon manga series in the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. The first volume of the series was published by Viz Media on September 7, 2021. The series is written by Shima Shinya and features other High Republic authors such as Justina Ireland and Daniel José Older. Illustrations are done by Mizuki Sakakibara.
Development[]
On January 4, 2021, StarWars.com confirmed that Viz Media would be publishing an original manga graphic novel called The High Republic: The Edge of Balance, Vol. 1 written by Justina Ireland and Shima Shinya and illustrated by Mizuki Sakakibara.[8] On January 27, Star Wars: The High Republic Show host Krystina Arielle confirmed that The Edge of Balance, Vol 1 would be released on June 8, 2021. She also unveiled concept art of the Jedi protagonist Lily Tora-Asi and confirmed that Jedi Master Stellan Gios and Wookiee Jedi Arkoff.[9]
On September 15, 2021, Arielle confirmed that Viz Media would be releasing The High Republic: The Edge of Balance, Vol. 2 in February, 2022. Shinya and Daniel José Older were announced as authors with Sakakibara continuing as illustrator.[10] Sample pages of the second volume were released on The High Republic Show on February 11, 2022.[11]
On October 8, 2022, Viz Media confirmed at the New York Comic Con that José Older and Tomio Ogata would be producing a new spinoff manga called The High Republic: The Edge of Balance: Precedent in May 2023.[3]
On February 28, 2024, StarWars.com confirmed that The High Republic: The Edge of Balance, Vol. 3 would be released on August 13, 2024 as part of Phase III: Trials of the Jedi. Older and Shinya were announced as the writers and Sakakibara as the illustrator. Sakakibara confirmed that the series would consist of four volumes and that the covers of the four volumes were meant to symbolize the seasons of autumn, summer, winter, and spring, respectively.[12]
