Star Wars is a Star Wars comic book series written by Charles Soule and published by Marvel Comics, beginning in January of 2020. It features the characters Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Lando Calrissian, Chewbacca, C-3PO, and R2-D2, and takes place between the events of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. It is a relaunch of the concluded comic series of the same name that ran from 2015 to 2019.[1] On April 1, 2020, Marvel Comics was forced to stall their publishing line due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4] Eventually, Marvel announced they would resume their publishing line on May 27, 2020,[5] and the series resumed publication in August 2020 with issue 5.[6]
The series ends with issue 50. However, Soule considers the "Qi'ra trilogy"[7] —the comic miniseries of Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters, Star Wars: Crimson Reign, and Star Wars: Hidden Empire[8]—and the[7] subsequent Star Wars: Dark Droids miniseries[9] to be part of his Star Wars series,[7] describing them as "tie-in series." As such, Soule considers Star Wars 2020 to be a seventy issue run and is very proud to have written such a long-lasting series in his favorite fictional playground.[10]
