Plot summary[]
Captain Tanch argues with a technician about the gas venting system on Cloud City, which can only be shut down from central processing on Level 109. Meanwhile, a stormtrooper calls Tanch to report that a squad is preparing to use charges to breach the room where Lando and Lobot are.
Inside the room, Lando sees the stormtroopers gathering and calls both Leia and Luke for help. Luke responds that he's still searching for his lightsaber in a massive junk room. As the stormtroopers start their countdown, Lando asks Lobot for ideas. Lobot’s eyes slowly open, and on Level 110, Automaintenance Crew 28-G stops their work and speeds toward the stormtroopers, attacking them just as they are about to detonate the charges.
Meanwhile, stormtroopers transport Leia, frozen in carbonite, toward a transport ship. They briefly speculate about her identity before concluding that Imperial Security Bureau (ISB) agents will soon extract all the information they need from her.
Luke, still in the junk room, is talking to workers, asking if they’ve seen his lightsaber. He decides to use the Force instead and has visions of Darth Vader, Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Emperor, and Yoda, followed by a vision of Leia in distress.
As Lando and Lobot attempt to leave, three stormtroopers stop them and demand to see their authorization. The stormtroopers are suddenly thrown through a nearby window, and Lando asks Lobot if he was responsible.
Luke eventually meets up with Lando and Lobot. Luke says he senses Leia is in a large hangar with many ships, and Lando confirms he knows where it is and that they can steal a ship there. Lando asks if Luke found his lightsaber, to which Luke replies that he stopped looking for it because a lightsaber is just a tool. He explains that a Jedi is someone who uses the Force to bring light to the galaxy and protect people, not just someone with a particular weapon. Luke adds that he’s not sure he needs his father's lightsaber since his father wasn’t a Jedi.
At the hangar, the trio sees stormtroopers loading a ship. Luke outlines a plan to rescue Leia, steal a ship, and fly away, adding that he wants to get his X-wing back. Lando expresses serious doubt about the plan but notes that since Leia has only been frozen for about an hour, she likely won't have hibernation sickness. Luke tells Lando to get ready, and suddenly, all the prisoners encased in carbonite are freed. Surrounded by armed stormtroopers, the prisoners are in danger until the stormtroopers’ guns fly out of their hands, clearly a result of Luke using the Force. Leia picks up a weapon and fires at the scattering stormtroopers.
The group fights their way to a ship, and Luke takes his X-wing. In Cloud City’s atmosphere, they are attacked by TIE Fighters, but Luke fends them off. Leia asks Lando why he came back, and Lando explains that he had to save Lobot. The other freed prisoners call Lando a hero for helping them with the Rebellion.
Finally, Luke explains that he has to leave to find a woman he has seen in his visions, believing she can answer some of his questions.
