"I was determined to get Ewoks into this miniseries, although I think there was some concern that they would appear too cutesy. As soon as I heard that Robert Hack would be our guest artist, I knew that there was no need to worry. One thing I did highlight earlier in the script was that these Ewoks would ideally look as near as possible to the murderous little critters in Return of the Jedi, complete with their black eyes rather than more cartoon-like eyes as seen in the '80s cartoon or Caravan of Courage. Although you'll find plenty of little references to Caravan in our story!"
―Cavan Scott[src]

Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle 4 is the fourth issue of comic book miniseries Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle. The comic was written by Cavan Scott, illustrated by Derek Charm and Robert Hack, and released on October 24, 2018 by IDW Publishing.

Development[]

Writer Cavan Scott's initial plan for the issue was to focus on Wicket W. Warrick and Teebo. When the story's timeline placement was decided to be pre-Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, it was suggested by Lucasfilm to make Chirpa and Logray the protagonists before they became Chief and Shaman.[4]

The comic was illustrated by guest artist Robert Hack, who is known for illustrating the classic Archie Horror comics. Inspired by Hack's inks, colorist Charlie Kirchoff developed a striking design with three color schemes, each using a limited palette.[4]

Continuity[]

Tales from Vader's Castle 4 makes several references to the 1984 TV movie Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and 1985 Ewoks cartoon,[4] including mentions of Chukha-Trok, Ra-Lee, Duloks, Wisties, boar-wolves, and the titular Gorax.[5]

  2. Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle 5 ends with Darth Vader imprisoning Vaneé, and as shown in Star Wars Adventures: Shadow of Vader's Castle, he doesn't get released until after the end of the Galactic Civil War. As he appears in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which Star Wars: Galactic Atlas places in 0 BBY, Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle 5 must take place some time after 0 BBY. Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle takes place immediately before Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle, meaning that Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle 2 takes place after 0 BBY. As Star Wars Adventures: Tales from Vader's Castle features Darth Vader, who dies in 4 ABY according to Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, then this series must take place some time between 0 BBY and 4 ABY.
