"Mon Cal star cruiser! The luxury liner Stellar Vista out of Corsin. Approximately ten thousand aboard!"
―An Imperial notifies Moff Wilhuff Tarkin of the Stellar Vista's interdiction[1]

The Stellar Vista was a Mon Calamari star cruiser during the Imperial Era. In the standard year 14 BBY, during the star cruiser's service as a luxury liner, it was pulled out of hyperspace by the orders of Imperial Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, who was seeking to recapture the Carrion Spike, his personal starship, which had been stolen by rebels.

Description[]

The Stellar Vista was a Mon Calamari star cruiser that was utilized as a luxury liner during the Imperial Era. The star cruiser was an organically sculpted appeared like something that was grown rather than decanted in a traditional way. It was a vessel that had the ability to transport around ten thousand passengers and bore a compliment of lifeboats and spherical escape pods to accommodate them.[1]

History[]

"The Stellar Vista reports that it is in imminent distress. The ship's captain is requesting all the help we can provide."
―An Imperial specialist relays information from the captain to Moff Wilhuff Tarkin[1]

In 14 BBY,[2] the Stellar Vista was traveling from the astronomical object Corsin with approximately ten thousand beings aboard when it was one of many ships pulled out of hyperspace in the Obroa-skai system by an Imperial flotilla commanded by Moff Wilhuff Tarkin. He had ordered the hyperspace interdiction as part of his effort to recapture his personal corvette, the Carrion Spike, which had been stolen by members of a rebel cell. The Stellar Vista, unable to maneuver or check its position, subsequently collided with the flotilla's Detainer CC-2200 interdictor. The Imperial vessel's sharp bow pierced the dorsal surface of the luxury liner, causing heavy damage, which prompted the ship's evacuation via its complement of lifeboats and escape pods. Imperial personnel quickly gave Tarkin information on the ship. The incident caused the captain to frantically request assistance from the Imperial ships present, which a specialist also notified Tarkin of.[1]

Following the collision, the entire stern of the Stellar Vista was destroyed. As other ships that had been pulled out of hyperspace attempted to flee, Tarkin ordered that his vessel, the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Executrix open fire on one of the ships, the Truant, which was wanted for arms smuggling. Although Imperial gunners could not get a clear shot due to the other ships in the way, which included lifeboats from the Stellar Vista, Tarkin insisted that they destroy the Truant. The gunners accomplished the task but were unable to avoid civilian casualties. Around 1,100 lives were lost, and the wreck of the Stellar Vista was towed to the planet of Obroa-skai for repairs. After the incident, holovids of the event, filmed by the passengers aboard, flooded the HoloNet.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Stellar Vista first appeared in Tarkin, a 2014 novel written by James Luceno.[1]
