- "The Sulfur Lake Pirates aren't the brightest pirate band on Lok. First, they named themselves after the lake where they have their 'hidden' lair."
- ―Choster, to a spacer
The Sulfur Lake Pirate Hideout was the secret base of the Sulfur Lake Pirates, located on the planet of Lok.
Description[]
- "I established the safeguards on their security system. It's not too dangerous, but does keep visitors out of the back room. Anyone who wants to enter needs to punch in a series of codes, which only the pirates know."
- ―Choster, to a spacer
The Sulfur Lake Pirate Hideout was a large and deep cave located near the Sulfur Lake, on the planet Lok.[3] It was the headquarters of the Sulfur Lake Pirates, a bloodthirsty group of pirates active on the planet. In fact, the pirates chose their name after the location of the hideout. Hence, they unwittingly revealed to their enemies that their base was located near the Sulfur Lake, and indeed their hidden lair was soon discovered.[2]
To counterbalance the discovery of their hideout, the Sulfur Lake Pirates established a sophisticated security system to prevent access to their lair.[2] In addition, the base was guarded by a number of pirates and trained veermoks.[3] Furthermore, the Bridge Troll, a large gurk trained by the Sulfur Lake Pirates for combat, patrolled the hideout.[4]
History[]
- "I have a feeling the Sulfur Lake Pirates may get their hands on the droid before us. If so, this easy scavenge job will turn into an infiltration of their hideout."
- ―Vana Sage, to a spacer
Upon the discovery of their hidden lair, the Sulfur Lake Pirates hired the engineer Choster to set up the defenses of the bases. However, as they attempted to assassinate him when the job was done, he never revealed to them the weaknesses of the security system.[2]
In 1 ABY,[6] an Imperial starship crashed-landed near the hideout after it took off from a secret Imperial mining installation on Lok. Indeed, the Sulfur Lake Pirates quickly salvaged anything valuable from its cargo. The crash was then discovered by Nym's Lok Revenants, the most powerful criminal group on Lok and arch enemies of the Sulfur Lake Pirates. As the Revenants had never been able to infiltrate the Imperial mine, Nym's head of security, Vana Sage, realized that the cargo could contain interesting information regarding Imperial activities on Lok.[5] Sage thus tasked a group of spacers who had recently joined the Lok Revenants with retrieving Imperial data from the cargo.[3]
To this end, the spacers and one of Nym's slicers raided the Sulfur Lake Pirate Hideout. Thanks to the help of Choster, the engineer who was eager to take his revenge on the Sulfur Lake Pirates, the spacers and the slicer bypassed the pirate security system and infiltrated the base.[3] During the assault, the spacers killed the Bridge Troll[4] as well as the pharple known as Nym's Girlfriend.[7] They also placed surveillance devices all around the base[8] and rescued a member of the Lok Revenants who had been captured by the Sulfur Lake Pirates.[9] One of the spacers also collected an obsidian lance in the hideout.[10] Finally, after killing numerous pirates, the spacers collected the memory module of an Imperial droid that was present in the crashed ship and brought it back to Nym's palace.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
The Sulfur Lake Pirate Hideout was a location in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[11] The Sulfur Lake Pirate Hideout was added to the game as part of "Nym's Theme Park,"[1] released with "Publish 3" on October 8, 2003.[12] This questline was later revamped with the release of the "Game Update 16: Stronghold of the Lok Revenants," on March 23, 2010.[13]

- ↑ The opening crawl of Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided dates the game to after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, and additionally, Serji-X Arrogantus, who died in Star Wars (1977) 10—the events of which The New Essential Chronology dates to 0 ABY—appears in the game. Therefore, at least a portion of Star Wars Galaxies must be set in that year. Furthermore, in the game Ruwan Tokai references the destruction of the Death Star as having occurred one year earlier, and Strongholds of Resistance also places the events of Galaxies' Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" in 1 ABY. Lastly, while Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" features the Battle of Hoth—dated to 3 ABY by The New Essential Chronology—the developers have stated that the portrayal of that battle in the game is intentionally anachronistic. Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
