The Sunburris cascade was a demonstration starfighter maneuver known to the Jedi Order. In 231 BBY, the flyby was completed by a drift of Jedi Vector starfighters led by the Jedi Knight Nib Assek during the Republic Fair on the Outer Rim planet Valo. Afterward, an illustration of the maneuver's performance was included in Chronicles of the Jedi, a book written by the Jedi Master Harli Cogra that was released in 229 BBY.

Description[]

The Sunburris cascade was a demonstration maneuver that could be performed by Jedi Vector starfighters flying in a formation. By the time of the High Republic Era, it was known to the Jedi Order.[1]

History[]

NibAssek

Jedi Knight Nib Assek considered the Sunburris cascade one of her favorite maneuvers.

During the High Republic Era, the maneuver was a favorite of the Jedi Knight Nib Assek, who led a drift of[1] six[3] Jedi Vector starfighters in performing the cascade during the opening ceremony of the Valo Republic Fair on the Outer Rim planet Valo[1] in 231 BBY.[2] Jedi Master Stellan Gios observed the flyby with Supreme Chancellor Lina Soh and her retinue, wishing he were with the Jedi performing it, who, besides Assek herself, included her Padawan Burryaga Agaburry, Knight Mikkel Sutmani, and Master Kunpar Vasivola of the Valo Temple.[1] Additionally, younglings spectated the performance in Lonisa City,[3] the capital city of Valo. After the flyby, visiting Togruta Regasa Elarec Yovet applauded the demonstration.[1]

Assek was later killed in an encounter with the Nameless creatures during the destruction of Starlight Beacon in 230 BBY.[2] In 229 BBY,[4] Vurk Jedi Master Harli Cogra wrote a book titled Chronicles of the Jedi. The book included an illustration of the performance of the Sunburris cascade during the Valo Republic Fair in the fourth chapter of the book within a section dedicated to Assek. The illustration showcased younglings watching the performance in Lonisa City.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Sunburris cascade appeared in the 2021 novel The High Republic: The Rising Storm, written by Cavan Scott, released as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia series'[1] Phase I.[5] It was first pictured in the 2023 in-universe reference book Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi, which was written by Cole Horton and illustrated by Yihyoung Li.[3] The maneuver shares its name with the Star Wars Legends character Crix Sunburris, a Jedi Master and ace pilot who was mentioned in the 2010 reference book The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force, written by Daniel Wallace.[6]

  4. Star Wars: The High Republic: Chronicles of the Jedi establishes that the in-universe book Chronicles of the Jedi was written weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates to 230 BBY. The issuing of the Guardian Protocols, dated by The High Republic Character Encyclopedia to 229 BBY, are depicted in The High Republic: Shadows of Starlight 1 as taking place one week after Starlight Beacon's destruction. With this, Chronicles of the Jedi must have been authored no earlier than 229 BBY. Chronicles of the Jedi further establishes that Pra-Tre Veter is still a Grand Master of the Jedi Order, meaning it was written before his death, which The High Republic Character Encyclopedia states took place in 229 BBY. Therefore, Chronicles of the Jedi must have been written in 229 BBY.
