"If we didn't have the right calculations, we'd fly right into a star, or bounce too close to a supernova, and that would end your trip real quick, wouldn't it?"
Han Solo to Luke Skywalker[src]

A supernova was a celestial phenomenon involving the explosion of a star. The process resulted in the formation of a black hole, a dark body that possessed immense gravity.[1] Chaos (as the Chiss called it) was hard to navigate as chained supernova explosions had occurred in the past that changed hyperlanes and made hyperspace travel in that area difficult.[2] When going supernova, a star would burn the other celestial bodies in its vicinity to cinders.[3] "Going supernova" was a common idiom for "exploding."[4][5]
