An election for the office of Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic was held by the Galactic Senate in the year 28 BBY (7:10:5 GrS). The sitting Chancellor, Palpatine, was re-elected for his second four-year term. The Senate later modified the Galactic Constitution in 24 BBY, to extend Palpatine's time in office beyond the traditional eight-year term limit.
