The TIE/rc was a model of reconnaissance TIE series starfighter that was used by the Galactic Empire. It was a variant produced from the base TIE/ln space superiority starfighter by fitting the standard model's fuselage with specialized equipment. For the TIE/rc, this meant replacing the TIE/ln's laser cannons with a suite of advanced sensor equipment to serve specifically for reconnaissance and surveillance missions.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The TIE/rc was first mentioned in "TIE Fighters," an issue of Star Wars Encyclopedia[1] that was first released on March 23, 2021.[2] The TIE/rc starfighter originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity with the The Star Wars Sourcebook, a 1987 West End Games Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game sourcebook authored by Bill Smith and Peter M. Schweighofer.[3] It was subsequently identified[4] on March 1, 1996[5] when it appeared in the novel by Michael P. Kube-McDowell Before the Storm.[4] It was pictured[6] in May 1 of the same year[7] when it was featured in the "Alliance Intelligence Report: TIE Fighters" section within Star Wars Adventure Journal 10 in a diagram within the report drawn by Stephen Crane.[6]
