The TIE/se Bomber,[2] also known as the First Order TIE bomber,[3] was a series of bomber used by the First Order. The craft had two central pods, one with a cockpit,[1] similar to the old TIE bombers used by the Galactic Empire.[source?] The new version featured notched wings, like the original TIE Interceptor.[1] The engine bank at the rear was squared off,[4] creating a silhouette similar to the TIE silencer.[source?] The TIE variant had four solar collectors that also acted as its wings, with four laser cannons on each forward tip. The wings themselves were angled outwards.[1]

The First Order also made use of a bomber known simply as a First Order bomber, which had a closer resemblance to the older Imperial TIE/sa bomber.[5] At one point during the war between the First Order and the Resistance, a number of TIE/se Bombers were deployed to the planet Aeos Prime.[4] After the Battle of Crait, they were deployed to bomb areas as part of the destruction of Tah'Nuhna.[1] The bombers were deployed again in attempt to destroy the Colossus in the Barabesh system.[6] "Dread" flew a TIE/se in a battle with Resistance T-70 X-wing starfighters.[7]

Behind the scenes[]

"The original TIE bomber had wings similar to the TIE Advanced, but the Interceptor-inspired wings give the First Order TIE bomber a more aggressive feel. The wing angles are also reversed. Both of these changes helped the bomber to have a more unique silhouette from the front and the top, to distinguish it from the other TIE ships."
Amy Beth Christenson[8]

The TIE/se Bomber first appeared in Allegiance 1, a comic written by Ethan Sacks and illustrated by Luke Ross. The comic was published by Marvel Comics[1] on October 9, 2019.[9] The TIE was identified as a "First Order TIE bomber" in the article "Bucket's List Extra: 6 Fun Facts from 'No Place Safe' - Star Wars Resistance," posted to StarWars.com on January 13, 2020.[8] Later, the model was identified as "TIE/se Bomber" in the Fury of the First Order Squadron Pack expansion pack for Atomic Mass Games's Star Wars: X-Wing Second Edition,[10] which released on September 24, 2021.[11]

The bomber was designed for Star Wars Resistance's[8] second season's sixteenth episode, "No Place Safe," which released on January 12, 2020.[12] Aaron Pham completed three pages of concept art for the bomber on August 21, 2018.[8][13][14] While the double pods were taken from the original Imperial TIE bomber, its wings were inspired by Interceptor for an aggressive presence, but with reversed angles. The changes to the wings provided the bomber with a unique silhouette, helping to distinguish it from other TIE models.[8]
