Opening crawlEdit

Death of a Dark Jedi
Following a disastrous confrontation with the malevolent Krath, Jedi Knights from all over the Galaxy come together on the planet Deneba to deal with this new threat to peace and justice. Ulic Qel-Droma makes a dangerous proposal: he will infiltrate the Krath and learn the secrets of their dark-side power.

As Ulic’s own Master Arca and others protest his plan, assassin droids sent by the Krath unleash deadly weaponry, killing many brave Jedi before they can be destroyed. Among the fallen is the great Master Arca himself.

As Ulic mourns his teacher, Nomi Sunrider warns Ulic Qel-Droma that it is foolish to think he can eradicate the dark side by learning its ways. But Ulic Qel-Droma vows to succeed where others have failed: “I will do this for Master Arca... for all the Jedi Knights... and for the good of the Republic!”

Few among the great Jedi gathered on Deneba have foreseen the far greater disturbance that is about to divide the Galaxy.

On the planet Korriban, the wandering Jedi Exar Kun discovers a valley of spectacular Sith tombs. There, the spirits of the ancient Dark Lords of the Sith test their new protege.

As alchemical Guardian creatures attack him, Kun finds his light-side powers mysteriously blocked. The only way Exar Kun can defeat the monsters is to release the power of anger, which bursts through him with great force.

Now, guided by the dark spirit of Freedon Nadd, Exar Kun sets out to retrieve ancient Sith power objects on a remote jungle moon...

Plot summaryEdit

Exar Kun arrives at the fourth moon of Yavin and is greeted by the Massassi. Freedon Nadd's Spirit is still present, and he warns Kun of the Massassi. Kun does not heed Nadd's warnings and is captured. Suddenly, the Massassi priest Zythmnr emerges from his solitude, claims Kun is the one they have waited for, and delivers him to the Temple of Fire.

On Ossus, Master Ood Bnar gives Ulic Qel-Droma the definitive history of the Empress Teta system to prepare for his mission to infiltrate the Krath. Before Ulic Departs, he is brought before Master Odan-urr, who uses a Sith holocron to show an example of a Jedi who wished to conquer the darkness from within, but failed and was seduced by the dark side of the Force. Ulic is offended by Odan-urr's disapproval, and goes on to claim the he must do this. As Ulic departs he is stopped by his brother Cay, who confesses his concerns for this mission and his worry that he'll never see his brother again. Ulic shrugs the idea off, and departs for Cinnagar disguised as a smuggler.

In the heart of the Sith Temple on Yavin 4, Kun is the center of a Massassi blood sacrifice. Rather than being afraid, Kun believes that he has finally reached the knowledge he seeks. As the ritual goes on, an amazing amount of power is released and a massive beast created from Naga Sadow's dark side alchemy awakens.

Now on the surface of Cinnagar, Ulic begins his mission. Unbeknownst to him, Satal and Aleema have already discovered his presence and plan to manipulate him. The next day, at a public execution, a sudden ambush against the Krath is staged by rebels. Things aren't looking good for the Krath when Ulic intervenes with the rationalization that if the Krath are defeated he will never be able to infiltrate them and learn their secrets. Having won the trust of the Krath, Aleema welcomes Ulic.

Facing certain death at the hand of Sadow's creature on Yavin 4, Kun embraces the power of the dark side yet again and takes control of an ancient Sith amulet. Channeling the Dark Side through this amulet Kun conquers the beast and the Massassi accept him as their new leader. Nadd is pleased and begins speaking of plans to resurrect himself, but Kun decides otherwise. Exar Kun uses the amulet's power to forever vanquish the spirit of Freedon Nadd. Within Nadd's final screams are a plead to the Krath to beware of Exar Kun and to defend the legacy of the Sith.
