5.1 Corrected spelling/grammar

There's an inconsistency as to what members of the Bespin Wing Guard should be called (more specifically, on this page, they're called Wing Guards, yet the category page refers to them as Wing Guardsmen). This means making the decision of whether you refer to members of the Bespin Wing Guard as 'Wing Guards' or 'Wing Guardsmen.'68.49.221.215 19:46, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

  • From what I can see, none of the listed sources in this article use the term Guardsmen. The only plural form ever used is Wing Guards, so the category will be changed in short order. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 19:09, June 7, 2019 (UTC)

Name change

I went through every source listed in this article that I believed would present a name for the Wing Guard (I may have missed one or two, but I checked 43 in total), and I discovered the following variations, keeping in mind that some sources use more than one name:

  • 27 sources use Wing Guard (10 use Wing Guard exclusively)
  • 15 sources use Cloud City Wing Guard
  • 9 sources use Bespin Wing Guard
  • 5 sources use Bespin Guard
  • 4 sources use Bespin Security Guard
  • 3 sources use Cloud Police
    • (If anyone wants a full rundown of these sources, I can provide my list)

So it would seem this article needs a name change. In checking the Naming policy, I believe this case falls under Item 2, second bullet point of Wookieepedia:Naming policy#Be precise when possible (no clear in-universe chronological naming precedence), which means we default to the name variation used most commonly in sources, and that would be Wing Guard.

However, this is where it becomes a little murky. We may consider that Wing Guard is merely an abbreviation/shortening of Bespin Wing Guard or Cloud City Wing Guard; indeed, there are 17 sources that use both Wing Guard and Bespin/Cloud City Wing Guard. However, there are 10 sources that use only Wing Guard, including (FWIW) the StarWars.com Databank, while 4 use only Cloud City Wing Guard. And to make this even more difficult, I would say there are definitely some sources that seem to treat the "Cloud City" portion of the name Cloud City Wing Guard more as an adjective than part of the formal name, but I guess that's really a matter of reader interpretation.

So what to do? With naming proliferation, it's a choice between Wing Guard and Cloud City Wing Guard. We may choose to interpret the latter as being "the most formal and accurate version provided in sources," to quote the first rule of the Naming policy — however, again, I would perhaps caution that some sources may be using "Cloud City" as an adjective and not part of the formal name, while others do seem to be using it as the full, formal name. I would really appreciate some feedback here before potentially going ahead and moving this article myself. Thank you. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 19:09, June 7, 2019 (UTC)
