Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Praji mentions a destroyer used in Vandar Tokare's day...a new class to the EU, I assume?JustinGann 13:39, 10 February 2009 (UTC)

  • That was in 4,225 BBY, based on the Fleet Junkies discussion I read. If not, then it's another class. VT-16 11:54, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Well, Star Destroyers have formally been made their own class according to Essential Guide to Warfare. Who wants to do the grunt work of moving the SDs that haven't been called (no-star) destroyers over? ZeroSD 12:02, May 28, 2012 (UTC)

Article split? Edit

Hi. I was wondering if we should split the article or at least create a new article for maritime destroyers? They do exist in the Star Wars universe, if Galactic Battlegrounds is anything to go by. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 12:38, October 5, 2012 (UTC)

  • I really don't know what you're referring to specifically by maritime destroyers, or transports or frigates, for that matter. This is something you should demonstrate with verifiable canonical evidence before you start moving pages around. I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt here and allow you a chance to explain what you're talking about, but as fair warning I'm very prepared to revert your page moves on all three of these articles. There's absolutely no reason to host, for example, the page at "Transport (starship type)" if "Transport" isn't being used. Toprawa and Ralltiir (talk) 20:37, October 8, 2012 (UTC)
    • Okay, in the game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds as well as its expansion pack, Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns, the various factions (Gungans, Royal Naboo Security Forces, Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, Wookiees, Trade Federation, and, in the case of Clone Campaigns, the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Grand Army of the Republic) had different types of military. One of those subsections was the maritime navy, which included Trawlers, Transports, Destroyers, Anti-Air Destroyers, Cruisers, and Frigates, as well as heavy or light versions of each of those ships, and are usable only within water areas. That's what I'm referring to. One example from that game is the Imperial Destroyer, which was a repulsorlift craft utilized in that game. There are other examples such as the Javelin vessels utilized by the Rebel Alliance. If you haven't played Galactic Battlegrounds, that might explain why you don't know what I'm talking about. I was pretty much proposing that we split up the article so spaceships in the Destroyer ship classification can be in one area, and destroyers for maritime (ie, aquatic-based) fleets in general, such as those in Galactic Battlegrounds, can be made. Hope that clears up some things. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 20:55, October 8, 2012 (UTC)
      • While I have no objections to creating aquatic counterpart articles for these terms, I question the move of the starship articles to the new names. Most references to cruiser, transports, etc generally refer to the spacecraft, and for ease of linking I would say that the starship articles should remain at the basic name. The current moves have created hundreds of redirects in articles across the wiki, including status articles. - Cavalier OneFarStar(Squadron channel) 21:35, October 8, 2012 (UTC)
        • Fair enough, I'll make sure I revert those moved articles, although I'll have to do it after I do chores. Weedle McHairybug (talk) 21:39, October 8, 2012 (UTC)
          • In response to Weedle, I understand what you're saying, and thank you for explaining. Cav beat me to the punch in responding, but I was pretty much going to say the same thing. I have no problem with creating individual articles for maritime ship types, but I also believe the starship variants should remain where they are, especially given that they are vastly more prominent, and also in light of the prominence of the whole space theme in Star Wars overall. • Well, I've barely done a scratch on my chores save for vacuuming my room and finishing the vacuuming of my parents bedroom, but I have managed to move the articles back. The Transport one took longer than expected, though, as apparently the Wikia was caught up in a throttle mode and thus could not process the edit.
