ESB Asteroid Impacts[]
There are a couple of frames in the Hoth asteroid field chase scene in ESB where TIE pilots are seen surviving the destruction of their ships (spinning off into space). Initially this was put in by ILM staffers as something for sharp-eyed viewers to catch in the theaters, but could be retconned to the pilots ejecting from their fighters prior to impact. Anybody got the Incredible Cross-Sections that might show ejector seats in TIEs?Tocneppil 17:28, 21 September 2006 (UTC) Öh... there is one and he is a burning corps that fell out of his fighter.
- I thought that there were no ejector seats in a TIE Fighter, but Marvel pretty much screwed that around. .... 06:34, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- I don't know -the footage in ESB really looks like the pilots are sitting down (there are stills available in one of the old Insider issues), and that predates the Marvel Star Wars issues.Tocneppil 08:10, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
- almost all sources sinze early 90s state that TIE fighters do have ejector seats (and for example that the craft is able to land itself anywhere.. contrary to someone stating that they were only able to land in imperial facilities)

Added Stub label[]
I added a Stub label, as i thought the article contained very little information about the ejector seat itself (such as keeping the pilot alive in the vacuum of space etc) Arachon 22:24 30 September 2006 (GMT+1)
Suit Sealer[]
I guess a suit sealer is a function of the suit that stops the pilot from bleeding to death upon injury (i.e. Hobbie losing his leg)?--LtCol. JuiceStain 19:52, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
...Or more importantly, prevents the air in his pressure suit from immediately flowing out to space if the suit if torn or punctured, leaving the pilot to suffocate and various other negative effects that are associated with human bodies chilling out in a vacuum without any protection. But yeah, its helpful if you are bleeding as well. Mostly just to make sure that the slightest fragment tear isn't a death sentence. There is no atmosphere inside the cockpit.64.223.165.28 07:14, March 21, 2018 (UTC)
Cannot be both expendable scum AND be equipped with ejection seats[]
I cannot be the only one who thinks it's ridiculous that "the Empire considers TIE pilots expendable and emphasizes this by putting them in fighters without any shielding and sending them out to die in swarms", and "saves weight by leaving the TIE fighter bare of hyperdrive, life support and anything other than what is needed to complete the mission"... indeed, pilots are "trained to abandon their wingmen even if in danger, rather than jeopardize the mission"...and yet apparently also wastes the expense, weight and space of installing an EJECTION seat into the fighter? (and of course supports the hardware and logistics of also RECOVERING the ejected pilots after the battle, which probably costs even more than the ejection seats themselves do; light ships to search for the pilots, other fighters to protect them, medical care, etc...cheaper to just outfit them to survive the battle and fly themselves home instead) The two are incompatible. Either the whole 'TIE pilots are expendable and cheap' thing is a lie, or the 'TIE fighters have ejection seats' is a lie. You might as well give kamikaze pilots an ejection seat. Personally, I think the fighters DID have ejection seats and that the whole "TIE pilots are treated as expendable" bit is typical pernicious Rebel propaganda calculated to make the Empire took ruthless and wasteful of the lives of their men. Foolish lies; trained pilots are expensive, and it's dumb to throw them away without reason. 64.223.165.28 07:29, March 21, 2018 (UTC)
