Doom

Advancement

I find it interesting that in 25 years or so, some Ewoks were able to not only engage with members of the up-to-date galactic culture, but also participate in advance technoogical manipulation, like piloting a ship or using a computer. Smart little fellers. --SparqMan 16:32, 11 Dec 2005 (UTC)

Those are capable individuals, rather than their whole society; meanwhile, in the real world, the entire *society* of Japan went from a sword-wielding feudal system to a world power capable of taking on a western nation in less than forty years (from the beginning of the Meiji Restoration in 1866 to victory in the Russo-Japanese War in 1905). Were do you get Wiket's name being wikket w. warwik? That doesn't sound factual. I know of no other Ewok's with names in that format. Varas Halcyon

I don't know, sounds like fannon to me. Could you provide the exact sentances that mention it? It sounds like some dumb thing hat would be in a mocumentary, like Return of the Ewok.

Although it does stretch the imagination, it is by no means impossible for a native army to overcome a stronger, more advanced invader. At Isandlwana for example, the British received their greatest Victorian Era defeats at the hands of a bunch of spear-welding Zulus. They’d get the same treatment (twice) at the hands of the Afghans, as would the Soviets in the next century. The French and later Americans would have the same experience in Indochina; as would the Spanish and Americans in the Philippines, the Ottomans in Palestine, the Portugese in Angola, the Italians in Abyssinia, the Russians in Finland, the Germans in Yugoslavia, the list goes on ad infinitum. Often the native militias achieve only stalemates or defeats with their enemy, yet are able to make the occupation so costly that the invader is no longer inclined to continue it. As the article says, this was perhaps most evident in Vietnam; the National Liberation Army (Viet Cong) never won a single major battle against SEATO forces, yet their insurgency was intractable enough to force our withdrawal and the eventual capitation of the ROV to red forces.

On that note the comparison of the Ewoks to the NLA is somewhat flawed; they were a guerrilla army, but the disparity of material and human resources was not as great as commonly believed. Ewoks were also assisted by Alliance air support and special operations forces. A more correct comparison would be to native militia groups that lacked much in the way of their own military infrastructure, but received aid from outside military forces such as the Montagnards or the Northern Alliance.66.133.180.32 10:30, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Vietnam War Reference

It says in this article that Lucas has never varified the parallel between the Vietnam War and the Battle of Endor, but I'm pretty sure than in both the 2004 ROTJ DVD commentary and the 2005 ROTS DVD commentary (while discussing wookies in relation to ewoks), I remember him citing the Vietnam war as an inspiration for the battle. He also mentions the conquering of the Roman Empire by the barbarians, mentioning Attila the Hun. I haven't seen either commentary in over six months, so could someone confirm this for me?

Holographic Ewok(s) in Bounty Hunter

Ewok's Can't Become Jedi?
