Classic Star Wars[]

  • Should the Classic Star Wars series be included in this list? Despite their being redrawn, they're still essentially the same pieces of media as the comics they're based on. I sort of view them as a "digitally remastering" sort of like the original trilogy, and we don't put every release of the original trilogy on the list. I'm not really sure if I should add them or not. -- Xell Khaar 05:52, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Upcoming releases[]

Could we consider adding a seperation on what has been released and what just has a 'projected' release? Anything after the current date would be projected.159.153.144.23 19:52, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

  • Well everything after today is technically a 'projected' release date, that'd be a pain to update everyday. Or do you just mean for the TBA stuff? -- Xell Khaar 01:11, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

By year or by decade?[]

Arranging this by year makes the list look really cluttered, especially since some of the headers only have a few things in them. The table of contents looks ridiculous, as it has like 40 items. It's also unnecessary. Having a million headers every few feet to tell people what year it is is redundant, as the dates are right next to the pieces of media. If it were arranged by decade, and someone clicked 1980s, it would take them like a second to find the year they wanted. So if there are no objections, then I'd like to change it back. -- Xell Khaar 20:21, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

  • I like it by year. Yes, some of the sections are on the short side, but look at how long the decade sections would be, particularly the 2000s. That's a lot of stuff to wade through. Having it sorted by year provides direct links to each year in the TOC; sorting by decades forces readers to scroll through a huge list to find what they need. —Master Jonathan(Jedi Council Chambers) 20:35, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
    • Alright.. I guess you're right.. as a compromise can we at least have the headers be the smaller, three equal sign headers? I think they look a lot less intrusive. -- Xell Khaar 20:40, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

TBA[]

What does it mean "TBA", that is next to Rookies: Day Long Remembered?----Skenar Jedi Order (Talk) 04:38, March 2, 2012 (UTC)

Work left to do and suggestions[]

It's a shame this article doesn't seem to get as much attention as Timeline of canon media and Timeline of Legends media. It satisfies a curiosity that those articles don't. Over the past few days, I've been trying to get the article up to date using the two Timeline articles as a reference, focusing only on the time period after April 25, 2014, but including the Legends content past that date too. When I started, it seemed to be mostly up to date to March 2017, with hardly any entries afterwards until the Upcoming section. Assuming the Timeline articles are reasonably complete, this article is now up to date, but only when it comes to things with story content.

The canon article isn't going to include things like:

  • Canon-era reference books, like Star Wars: The Dark Side
  • Official art and making-of books
  • Magazines like Star Wars Insider and any other kinds of periodicals
  • Video games that are meant to be entirely or mostly non-diegetic, like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, you know, the kind of games that are all about making Nute Gunray and Darth Talon play tower defense together and no real in-universe story
  • The LEGO games and videos
  • The Fantasy Flight Games media, which apparently contains a mishmash of canon and Legends content, and any other similar RPG or board game content if any other companies make some

Likewise, I don't think the Legends article included stuff like SkyeWalkers: A Clone Wars Story, I had to remember that myself, and so there could be similar such Legends material I haven't included (if SkyeWalkers even counts as Legends, that's a little unclear and I don't know if LSG is keeping track, it could be that it's just non-canon and non-Legends even if meant to be in-continuity with Legends).

So, that gives an idea of what I might've missed and what's left to fill in. Some of the above, like a bunch of magazine issues, were accounted for up to like 2015 or 2016, but not as consistently as what else was there before I started.

As for prior to April 25, 2014, I have looked through everything from 1976 to around 2000, and it looks complete, but I'd have no way of knowing if it wasn't. I'm more worried about the 2010 to 2014 range, considering the spottiness of the 2014 to 2017 range.

Other problems, things to fix, and considerations:

  • I was thinking about including links to this article at the bottom of the two Timeline of media articles, maybe under a "See also" header, if only because that might increase traffic to this article, which might mean more attention and upkeep. But I also think it'd be relevant to the people who visit those pages.
  • I was also thinking of turning this into three articles, one for all media including Legends, canon, and non-canon, and then two others for canon and Legends each. I figured it wouldn't be redundant with the Timeline articles because a Legends-only list of media would include stuff like the old WEG books, that the Timeline, I think, doesn't. Or at least things in that vein.
  • I like the Canceled section, but there are some things which haven't been confirmed Canceled, which shouldn't go in the Upcoming section either, like Star Wars Detours and the Clone Wars unfinished arcs that we don't know to be included in Season Seven.
  • I wasn't sure what release dates to go with when it comes to advance screenings of TV episodes, exclusive world premiers of films, and early-access for video games. I left them as they were, but I'm not sure if the previous editors stayed consistent across the article in the first place.
  • The lead clarifies that stories only found within a collection shouldn't be listed separately. I followed that with From a Certain Point of View, but I think elsewhere it wasn't followed, I think for example the four Canto Bight (novella collection) stories. I could just go through and correct them all, but I wonder if that policy shouldn't be reconsidered. After all, we do list the Star Wars Insider short stories separately from the magazine issues themselves.
    • Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion might be a similar issue, since the two component episodes could also be seen having aired separately from each other, whereas none of the From a Certain Point of View or Canto Bight stories were released separately after their collections' release as far as I'm aware.
  • The formatting is a mess.
    • I wound up just making everything italicized, but a lot of things are italicized when they should be unitalicized and within normal quotation marks, and vice versa, especially when it comes to the titles of episodes, short films, and short stories. I also noticed that sometimes the quotation marks aren't hyperlinked along with the title within them, and I think they should be, but I could be wrong. I see how it makes the automatic hyperlinking more difficult though.
    • When multiple items share the same name, should we include the type of media in parentheses, like their article names do? I'm thinking we should when another item in this list has the same name, like The Empire Strikes Back (arcade game) versus The Empire Strikes Back (Golden Book), but not when the only competing name is an article that's not a piece of media, like Phasma (novel) versus Phasma. But it might be hard to keep track of what has an identical name within the list versus what has an identical name across Wookieepedia.
    • There are also a number of split hyperlinks I'll want to find and fix.
    • Sometimes normal "-" dashes are used. I'm not sure when em dashes and en dashes should be used, I always use the longest one when separating the title from the release date, but it's trickier when choosing the dashes used within a title, especially if the hyperlinking and main name of the Wookieepedia article use a different (and ugly) dash. You know, sometimes it's a Darth Jar Jar – Counterattack of the Gungan, other times it's a Darth Jar Jar—Counterattack of the Gungan, even when the official cover art gives no indication of whether to do either of those, or Darth Jar Jar: Counterattack of the Gungan or even Darth Jar Jar ~Counterattack of the Gungan~ like you see on so many Japanese translated titles. Just as long as it's not Darth Jar Jar - Counterattack or Darth Jar Jar-Counterattack I guess.
    • Some episodes on the same date might not be listed in order because I copied them from the Timeline articles and they would've been in alphabetical order when the dates were the same.
    • I'm sure the Wookieepedia community has figured out a standard of when to use the original or marketing titles and when to use the fullest title, like Star Wars: The Force Awakens versus Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, but I wasn't sure. I kind of prefer both The Empire Strikes Back to Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: The Force Awakens to Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens, only using the full title with the prequel films because they were marketed that way originally. I think that's Wikipedia's standard.
  • I tried to improve the lead. I added more examples of types of media, to give the reader a sense of range and specificity. Maybe the lead on a list should be as brief as possible, but I thought I had the room. I might have listed too many types of books, but the Timeline articles discern between junior novels and young-readers books, so I thought it must be important. I also considered making as many examples hyperlinks as possible, ending up mostly linking to Category articles, but I figured that would be unwieldy and confusing.
  • Something titled "Duel of the Skywalkers" is listed, linking to LEGO Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles, but I don't see anything sharing that title, nor the associated release date, in that article. Also, I think the mini-episodes of that series were broadcast after April 25, yet I didn't see them listed.
  • There's a Tales from Wild Space: The Heist listed in 2019 that I don't know what to do with.
  • We don't list reprints, trade paperbacks, or collections that don't have original material here, but I didn't check to see if the Special Editions of the films were listed separately. If they were, maybe the 3D release of The Phantom Menace should also be listed separately.
  • For a few things, like the The Weapon of a Jedi, Part 1 comics, I got rid of a bunch of redlinks by linking to the article of the run instead of the individual issues. But I guess I should turn them back to redlinks until the individual issues get their own articles created. If so, I might place the parent article next to the redlink in parentheses until the redlink is fixed, same with the Bantha Tracks redlinks early in the list.

Sorry for the huge post and the minutiae, I just wanted to share all the information I could in case I abandon this article and someone else wants to pick up where I left off. Terminimal (talk) 23:14, June 14, 2019 (UTC)

Titan Magazines' "Star Wars: The Official Magazine" (#1 - 68) 1996 - 2007[]

In the absence of precise release dates for most of the magazines in this series, I chose to place them in the first month covered by each issue -- Kihotay 01:00, March 9 2021 (UTC)
