Whose victory? Edit

Both this page and its Legends counterpart call this episode a "Rebel Alliance victory." Is there an official source that calls it such? Because the actual outcome seems, if anything, to tip more in the Imperials' favor: they've spent the entire film trying and failing to learn the location of the Rebel base, and by allowing the Falcon and her crew to escape, they at last succeed. In fact, when Han expresses his opinion that this is a Rebel victory, Leia—the only actual Rebel aboard the ship—explains that the Imperials have engineered the whole thing. (It's anyone's guess why she then proceeds to lead them to a base that she withstood torture to protect the location of.)

Obi-Wan's death is also a blow to the Rebel cause. While the Rebels did rescue Leia and maintain possession of the Death Star plans, the Imperials allowed both of these things in a calculated risk whose outcome would not be known until the Battle of Yavin was finished. Thus, this particular event seems a draw at best. Asithol (talk) 01:05, July 30, 2016 (UTC)

  • It would seem that even though they rescued Leia it was more of a success for the Empire than the Rebels. I guess the only reason it could be considered a Rebel Alliance victory is because they achieved what the objective was --Lewisr (talk) 01:12, July 30, 2016 (UTC)
    • But both sides achieved a major objective: The Empire finally found a way to locate the Rebel Base they had been so long searching for. Since no one seems to know of a source that calls this a Rebel victory, I've removed this unsupported claim (from both this article and its Legends version), listing the major results of the event without declaring anyone a victor. • Fair enough then, that sounds like the best thing to do --Lewisr (talk) 21:20, November 2, 2016 (UTC)
