Why couldn't sandcrawlers have repulsorlifts so they could hover a little above the ground and not have any ground friction to contend with? I think repulsorlifts would allow them to go faster, have less moving parts, and therefore be less of a hassle to maintain. --68.102.193.78 20:33, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

  • Probably cheaper. Cutch 01:57, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
    • Several possibilities. First is a homage to Dune, where certain types of technologies would antagonize worms into attacking. Second is that electromotive drives are fundamentally very simple to maintain over thousands of years because induction motors are very simple devices that can be made out of literally nothing but metal, magnets, and a simple understanding of field interactions. Third is that the factors of repulsorlifts, sand, and weight are not entirely known. Perhaps heavier objects cannot use repulsorlifts over compressible matter like sand. Further, speed is not important to jawas; they need efficiency and protection. All the heavy armor we see in Star Wars walks or rolls, presumably because weight is still a factor in movement. The jawas wouldn't want to travel the desert without their mobile fortresses for fear of attack, nor can they count on finding fuel reliably, so fission driven vehicles that can run for years without replenishment and shrug off all but the most determined attacks by modern enemies are naturally a wise pick. Don't forget that nothing on tatooine's cheap, what with all the sleazy dealers.Ultrabountyhunter 23:42, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

InspirationEdit

The LVT-5 and\or AAV (or any number of AFVs for that matter) are far more likely to be the inspiration for the Sandcrawler. In fact, during AFVID classes, the AAV is described as being "the one that looks like its from Star Wars".

Tatooine GhostEdit

Ain't there also Reference to the Sandcrawler in "Tatooine Ghost"?

Something like a wrecked one that was highjacked by this furry little guys that mess around with Han and Leia several times?

Steam Powered Nuclear Fission?Edit

Seriously. That can't be canon, can it? I can't even say it out loud with a straight face.

  • I was just about to point this out as well. Steam power and nuclear fission are two completely different technologies. It's like having a wind-powered ship with an antimatter reactor. :-) Unit 8311 20:47, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
    • It seems clear to me whoever first penned the phrase just got the terms reversed and should have said fission generated steam power. Piroko 16:32, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

The first two users seem to be ignorant of how nuclear power even works. A nuclear reaction produces heat. This heat is used to heat up water and turn it into steam. The steam rises and spins turbines. Read and learn, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship#Nuclear-powered_steam_turbines

Kalit's sandcrawlerEdit

Shouldn't there be an article for Kalit's sandcrawler from ANH?

Appearance In "Episode 1: Racer" Edit

In the video game "Episode: Racer", the podracing game, you pass by a sandcrawler while racing the Boonta Eve Classic. Would this appearance be canon or non-canon? bubbacold 20:59, September 26, 2009 (UTC)

Why not infobox anymore Edit

I was just wondering why isn't here an infobox anymore, as there was some time ago. --DARTH SIDIOUS 2 (Ota yhteyttämuokkaukseni) 16:27, October 29, 2009 (UTC)

Other Sandcrawlers Edit

Ok, if the Czerka Corporation and the Corellion Mining Company were mining on other planets, were there other Sandcrawlers on diffrent planets being used by miners?
