Does anyone else think we should rename it Gender?[edit source]

It's a little more understood, and we don't have to make it confused with reproduction. I mean, it is probably poked fun at a lot. Just a suggestion, but there isn't a major problem with it. Billythecorndog (talk) 18:55, February 7, 2016 (UTC)

  • I don't see any reason to move it; it's fine as is. Cevan IMPpress.svg (talk) 18:57, February 7, 2016 (UTC)
    • Sex and Gender are two different things anyway. Sex is biological. Gender is a social and cultural concept/state of being. So it would be incorrect to use them interchangeably like that. - Brandon Rhea(talk) 19:02, February 7, 2016 (UTC)
  • I agree with you. I’d rename it too. First Emperor of the Global Empire (talk) 19:30, September 11, 2020 (UTC)

Is an "Appearances" really needed?[edit source]

I'm saying this for both the Legends version and the Canon version of the article. Nearly every Star Wars work has gender in them. --LoLuX12 (talk) 02:05, April 10, 2016 (UTC)

  • An appearances section is generally standard. However, sometimes in cases like this, we limit such a section to only instances in which the subject is specifically referenced. It might not be a bad idea to have such a section for that on this article. ProfessorTofty (talk) 00:26, April 11, 2016 (UTC)
    • I agree. We should treat the appearances section like the one on the galaxy. Cwedin(talk) 00:33, April 11, 2016 (UTC)

Nonbinary gender[edit source]

As the new EU has introduced characters who are nonbinary, the page might benefit by mentioning this.Mcc1789 06:59, July 22, 2019 (UTC)

Preferences[edit source]

I would much rather prefer this article to be called Genders instead of Sexes, as “Sexes” is rather outdated and can be confused with any other definition which I won’t mention. Why is it not called “Genders”? Someone, please explain in this thread. First Emperor of the Global Empire (talk) 19:29, September 11, 2020 (UTC)

  • Because "sex" is the formal and appropriate term for the biological division. "Gender" is more social or flexible in its definition, and though often used interchangeably, is not exactly the same as "sex." Also, the word sounding dirty is irrelevant to whether or not it should be the title of the article. Any mature person knows what this article is about. For the other topic, we have Reproduction. MasterFredCommerce Guild.svg(talk) 20:07, September 11, 2020 (UTC)
    • Currently, this page discusses all three topics of sex, gender, and reproduction rather interchangeably. Most of the information pertaining to reproduction should of course be moved to that page, and in a similar sense I don't think it's out of the picture to discuss creating a page for gender, since as you note they are indeed different terms. RattsT (talk) 20:20, September 11, 2020 (UTC)
      • Yeah, this page is not great, but the title isn't the issue. If someone wants to detail how gender works and is perceived in the Star Wars universe, I'm all for a separate article. MasterFredCommerce Guild.svg(talk) 06:01, September 12, 2020 (UTC)
        • Agreed, and something to consider would be to have a |sex= and |gender= parameter in the infoboxes. I think it's entirely appropriate--Vitus InfinitusTalk 15:20, September 12, 2020 (UTC)
  • I added {{Overhual}} as gender and sex need to be separated/re-written. This was brought up again because Keo Venzee identifies as non-binary with they/them pronouns--Vitus InfinitusTalk 14:51, October 2, 2020 (UTC)
