Notability

Do we really need an article on a rumored game? --Imperialles 22:19, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

  • It needs to be sourced at least. -- Riffsyphon1024 22:47, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
  • Didn't we delete the pages for KOTOR 3 and BF 3? This is no different than those. This should go. Kuralyov 05:52, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Damn. I was hoping for a KOTOR I style epic, now we're going to get this Galaxies style garbage. Victor (talk) 05:27, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Move

I believe this page should, for now, be moved to Untitled Star Wars MMORPG until we get an actual confirmation on the name, and if it's even going to be a sequel to KOTOR II. Victor (talk) 01:15, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

  • Better yet, "rumored Star Wars MMORPG." —Silly Dan (talk) 19:27, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Well no because its not rumored its confirmed by a EA Ceo didn't you read the article? Steves490 23:40, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
    • Look at the timestamp of Silly Dan's post. -- AdmirableAckbar (Talk) 23:58, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
      • Can an admin rename the article to the correct game name ? File:DreosskBlanc.jpg Dreossk | 00:53, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
        • Agreed. Moving it to Star Wars: The Old Republic isn't just speculation, it's common sense. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 02:31, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
          • Someone reverted the edit with reason: speculation. It's not speculation, EA's boss confirmed it and the source was there, what do they need more ? Damn it's impossible to edit anything on Wookieepedia, I never suceeded. File:DreosskBlanc.jpg Dreossk | 15:01, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
            • Did they confirm the name in the confirmation of the game? If not, that is indeed speculation. JorrelWiki-shrinkableFraajic 15:02, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
              • George Lucas would make an account on Wookieepedia to edit the page and you'd revert him. I'm off. File:DreosskBlanc.jpg Dreossk | 15:04, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
                • That all depends on whether he could back up his edits. You can't, so you got reverted. Simple as that. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 15:09, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Not an MMO

From an interview: "John Riccitiello said that EA is working on the next version of Star Wars game Knights of the Old Republic, and it will most certainly have a massively multiplayer online component to it." It seems that the main part of the game will not be online multiplayer. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 13:07, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

I agree cause I would be pissed if I have to pay by the month just to see what happens to Revan.User:Revanthereformer1138

  • So if it's not an MMO, what exactly is it? We can't keep the article (title and content) as it is now if it's just going to be a misrepresentation of information. // ~mikah~ 19:21, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
    • "Knights of the Old Republic single player game with MMO component" would be too long, would it not? Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 19:24, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
      • I'm not the one suggesting it. :) Though, yes, it would be quite a mouthful. Regardless, the title and article content in question give off the impression that the game provides solely an online, multiplayer experience. If I may, I suggest using "Untitled Knights of the old Republic game" (or at least something along those lines, if still too large), as we do with yet-to-be-titled novels. // ~mikah~ 19:40, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

That sounds better. Also, this site reports that the title of the game will be announced within the next 30 days. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 02:21, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

  • If so, then I wouldn't object to waiting the extra month. A Conjecture tag can be used until then. // ~mikah~ 18:16, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
  • there is going to be a press conference on october 21 to 'officially' announce the game and reveal information. an invite was mailed to gaming press. http://au.gamespy.com/articles/916/916588p1.html Philby 23:11, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

The Wait is Over

"The Wait is Over", according to G4. I hate to speculate, but KOTOR 3 is the game we've been waiting for, so hopefully this really is KOTOR 3 and not entirely a MMO. Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 01:58, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

  • Forgot to link to this as well. I know nothing of Gamasutra, but from the article it sounds like he/she/it's in some way affiliating with LucasArts. Would anyone object if I added that teaser poster to the article? Drewton Era-old (Drewton's Holocron) 02:00, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
    • I say go for it, though note that it is the suspected KotOR "MMO" banner rather than the official. As it features neither title nor trademark--only "Lucasarts" and "Bioware"--we can't force these things to fit our desires. (But if I may add with a completely unnecessary comment, I certainly do hope it is the game I've been losing sleep over. If the graphics are to be as sharp as they are in the banner, I'm sold.) // ~mikah~ 02:16, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

It's a MMO. Drewton Era-old Drewton's Holocron]]) 00:54, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

The Old Republic? Dangerdan97 21:45, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

  • The website posted in the section above is a fansite that leads me to no actual confirmation of the new name. Is it reliable? // ~mikah~ 22:42, 21 October 2008 (UTC) Scratch, I've found the the official site. // ~mikah~ 22:46, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Timeline error?

I registered on the forums, and saw some interesting things

It seemed that people's forum avatars bore the insignias of the rebel alliance and galactic empire. awful mistake by EA, or is there something Im missing? Also, one of the avatars appears to be similar toan AT-AT head.

71.36.50.212 02:36, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't think the avatars are indications of what's in the game, but rather popular images based on all eras, but I'm far from sure. 14:30, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
  • the 'clone troopers' from the concept art are infact republic special forces, no doubt the non-jedi character's role-Guest

The insignias seem to be for the Republic (based on the Rebel one) and the Sith (based on the Empire's insignia which was based on the Republic's). So not a timeline error more like an association error, I really dislike it though and I hope they decide to change it (unfortunatly I don't think that's likely to happen). -Unsigned comment by 24.132.241.201 (talk • contribs).
Actually, the Republic logo here seems to resemble that of the Jedi Order more than the Rebellion's, but I can't think of an in-universe reason for why that would happen. -MPK 19:24, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Setting

I'd like to post this:

The Setting

"The Galactic Republic stood for generations as a bastion of peace in a galaxy of warring star systems. Protected by its stalwart Jedi guardians, the Republic held the greatest hope for the progress of civilization and galactic unity.

Deep in unknown space, however, a mighty Sith Empire was forged, led by dark Sith Lords who dreamt of galactic domination and vengeance against their ancient Jedi enemies. After centuries of preparation, the time came for the Sith to make their return.

With a massive fleet and an awe-inspiring army of fearless troops, the Sith Emperor launched a surprise assault, quickly capturing dozens of worlds in the Outer Rim, and sparking a war unlike any other in the galaxy’s history.

From the frozen wastes of Ilum to the desert plains of Dathomir, violent battles killed untold millions. Despite its avowed neutrality, surface structures on the water-covered world of Manaan were completely destroyed, forcing the Selkath to retreat to their ocean underworld. Other star systems fared worse—some destroyed, others left uninhabitable. The carnage concluded with the Sith Empire sacking the Republic's capital planet of Coruscant and forcing the Republic Senate into the controversial Treaty of Coruscant.

In the years since the treaty, fear and uncertainty have gripped the galaxy, enabling the Sith Emperor to pursue his own mysterious purposes while the Republic has made efforts to rebuild its infrastructure and adjust military priorities to the new galactic landscape.

Now, tensions between the Republic and the Empire are running high, and a series of border skirmishes and proxy wars have broken out, even on planets as historically peaceful as Alderaan. The uneasy truce established by the Treaty of Coruscant is quickly tearing apart at the seams, and a return to all-out war has begun in all but official terms.

A new generation of heroes, both light and dark, emerges to face the difficulties of these chaotic times, and fight for the fate of the galaxy in this most desperate age."[1]

Revan

Will Revan appear in the game or any other characters from kotor or kotor 2?

I doubt we will see that many characters, considering that this game takes place hundreds of years after the previous two. Still, there is a possibility for members of long-lived species and droids to appear. I, for one, am hoping for HK-47. As for Revan, well, maybe, maybe not. If he does, then it will probably be a major plot point. 09:18, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
  • It seems pretty clear to me that placing the plot 300 after the KotOR games is done to no small degree to preclude any possibility of Revan or the exile appearing in the game and thus avoid the question of their genders and alignments, which would cause trouble among some fans no matter how it was done. But clearly they failed to stop the true Sith, because here they are 300 years later bashing the Republic. However, the FAQ on the website says the following: "Given that it is approximately 300 years since the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, many of the characters have passed away. However, their legacy does live on as many of their descendants will be part of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Some droids can last a long time as well." To me this means that Revan and exile are long dead along with all their companions, though we will likely see their descendants (Jaden Onasi, Operation Vao, and their ilk), while I'm certain HK-47 and T3-M4 will undoubtedly be back. Jediphile 16:33, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
    • Hurts my heart to think that Revan and the Exile failed in their noble mission. Btw, doesent it sound a bit weird that the Republic were forced into a peace treaty? If Revan really did all the horrible things he did in order to protect the Republic/Galaxy, then why do the new sith feel a bit less deadly?
      • For God's sake. It was never specified that their "noble mission" was to track down the "true Sith" (Lowercase 't'). As for the second thing, you'll have to wait for the game and pay somewhere in the margin of $15 a month until you find it out. NaruHina Talk Anakinsolo 09:23, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
          • "You must go where Revan did, into the Unknown Regions, where the Sith, the true Sith, wait in the dark for the great war that comes. And he came because Malachor, like Korriban, lies on the fringes of the ancient Sith Empire, where the true Sith wait for us, in the dark." That is Kreia talking the exile straight from the end of KotOR2. So yes, Revan did go to fight the true Sith, and the exile followed him. Note the use of the phrase "Great War". That was not something they thought up for the MMO. Jediphile 15:01, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
        • I don't think that it would be impossible for Revan to be in the game. For example there hvae been many charracters, which have managed to stay alive for a hundred years or longer. Revan could even be the sith emperor in the game.

If I understand correctly Revan tried to conquer the Republic to make it stronger, and even if he failed it would still be stronger. The presence of Republic troopers and advanced craft in concept art and videos seems to confirm this. I mean, would the Republic have even managed a peace treaty if they hadn't been learnt from Revan's near victory over them, or Revan hadn't gone to fight the sith? I think there could be holograms and messages left by Revan in the game. User:1705jallen

Plot

Well we should really add a plot topic, from all the Game Info we know now. It isn't quite hard. The Great War article is arleady created and finished, but there is no reference of it in the TOR article. It would be also likely if we created a Plot topic above all game details. After all I think everyone knows how a KOTOR game begins. In TOR, if someone plays a Jedi would wake up in Tython. If someone is a Sith would wake up in Korriban. That's pretty easy. So what do you say? George Skywalker 10:04, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Will it be a Typical MMO

Like will it be P2P or will it not be? Or have they not even touched this subject yet?216.110.255.246 23:41, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

  • So far, the interviews seem to lean away from the "typical" MMO style in order to focus heavily on story, but you should take everything with a grain of salt at this early stage. Player vs Player hasn't been discussed, near as I can tell. SinisterSamurai 19:55, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

  • It is highly unlikely that it is even some sort of resurrected zombie malak. Not only did Malak die on the star forge, but he also accepted his death and became "Nothing" (likely he did not even have a force ghost in death). His body was them on the star forge when it was blown to pices by the republic fleet and even if it could have been intact after that, it likely fell into the primary star of Rakata along with the rest of the Star Forge debris--99.141.183.63 20:09, March 30, 2010 (UTC)

Unidentified Jedi (Sacking of Coruscant)

I believe Unidentified Jedi (Sacking of Coruscant) Should be added to the list of characters, as he is one of the few known. Aeaolen

  • I disagree. He and various other characters from the Deceived trailer, as well as the Sacking of Coruscant, have been added to the appearances section here, which I believe is wrong. The trailer is set before the game, so just because they appear in it, doesn't mean they will in the game, so they should not be included in this article --Jinzler 13:51, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
    • I think evey character in the trailer should be in the appearence section. This video will be in the game somewhere (like the TFU's first good trailer). If they won't shown them in the game, they will get a flashback tag.10:04, 11 June 2009 (UTC)05:27, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Reorganize classes section

I think the classes section should be reorganized into subsections rather than a table, so that more information can be shown about each class as information is revealed, also the picture of a bounty hunter is on covering it partially (at least when viewed in safari.) Should I keep it as a table or reorganize it?Nebulon B freak 20:00, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

  • More information sounds like a good idea me, especially considering they only link to the actual Bounty Hunter, Smuggler, etc articles, nothing TOR related. --Axims 08:59, 9 June 2009 (UTC)
    • Olioster, I was about to add more info to that, especially concerning how a screenshot shows a bounty hunter armed with a flamethrower, that table makes it harder to add information and doesn't fit style-wise with the rest of the page, I doubt that five classes is enough to deserve an entire table. I will wait for the input of others for whether or not to get rid of the table again and change it to the way the rest of the article is set up.Nebulon B freak 19:50, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

Developer Videos/Blogs/webcomics

Do you think that maybe we could put a list on this page of all the material being published associated with this game? For example, link the Timeline 1, Timeline 2, the Deceived videos, the Threat of Peace comics, etc. to this page? I'm having a hard time finding out when new videos are released (without going to swtor.com). Frankly, it could be in the form of the little infobox thing at the bottom of KOTOR comics/games articles, that links to all other KOTOR matériel. Thoughts? Unidentified Rodian and Kel Dor Jedi

Should we have these articles mentioned too? I think there's no need to. If they are there, then we should have every Jedi and Sith that appear on the trailer... And that's a bit stupid. Alexrd 08:19, 11 June 2009 (UTC)

Release Date?

Does anyone have a guess on the release date for SWTOR?

I Hope around October-January 2009-2010

That too is speculation, we have very little idea to what stage of development there currently in. 84.68.248.138 10:53, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
I think that the most recent developer video points to sooner, rather than later... and yet, that felt like PR posing to me. They only provide a sliver of finished product, and since they talk so often about the scope of the VO alone, it may be a long time before an alpha appears. Yeah, it's speculative, but I think that's reasonably well-founded.Blackhawk003 21:35, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Among the reasons BioWare set this game (and the original KotOR, for that matter) ~4000 BBY was to give them some room to move around creatively without as high a risk of running into issues with canon or continuity. Taris as ingame location.

Leeked images of scripts have highlighted that Taris will be playable in game where the question is asked:

Taris is a dangerous place. What are you doing here? http://darthhater.com/2009/07/21/taris-a-planet-in-swtor/

No because the line is "Taris is a dangerous place. What are you doing here?" here being taris. Alexsau1991 12:43, October 8, 2009 (UTC)

I found a place that talks about this game having pvp in the game http://www.swtor.com/news/article/20090605_002 about the fifth paragraph down. should we say anything about this. Strong mouse 03:00, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

should we have Kel Dor listed as a species? The Jedi historian who is compiling the history, Gnost-Dural, is a Kel Dor so maybe he should be put in. Strong mouse 22:54, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

System Requirements & Other Notes

I look forward to this game despite some issues *cough* the faction emblems Bioware, what were you thinking??? *cough* And Imperials, what? I don't understand? *cough* Revan failed? *cough* And a general feel of... hold on... that's not 3,500 BBY, that's just Episode II design and concept art recycled.

Anyway, now that I'm done coughing (sorry about that)... let me explain how I need your help... I'm about to get a new PC and was wondering if anyone had any idea on what the system requirements might be for this game so that I can look for a PC up to spec. Any detail here would be highly appreciated!

Whilst I'm here, I'll post another query... I tried signing up on their site, got green ticks on all fields, then I ticked the relevant boxes, but it came up with a message "Sorry, you do not meet the criteria to create an account at this time." So I'm a little annoyed that it's not allowing me to sign up, any ideas guys? I'm wondering whether my location (the UK) has anything to do with it, or not.

Thanks in advance to any comment, reply or advice to the little talk section I've added here. -TheLostJedi 00:23, 01 September 2009 (GMT)

I'd imagine the system requirements won't be tremendously high, I mean, world of warcraft deliberately had quite low requirements so more people could play it, if they make it too high they won't get anywhere near the success WoW has had. Might even work on XP but as of yet there's been no requirements released. -ShiftyPoolton 14:50, 10 September 2009 (GMT)

Phew. Thanks for the reply! -TheLostJedi 23:37, 13 September 2009 (GMT)

Jedi class?

There was a lot of fuss about smuggler being added before it was officially released on the website but Jedi is a class on the page and there is no proof of this at all, i mean, there probably will be a Jedi class, almost certainly but it's not been confirmed. Doesn't it need to be sourced? Should be removed till it is officially announced.ShiftyPoolton 13:28, 12 September 2009 (GMT)

Jedi may not have had there big info release like smuggler, trooper, bounty hunter and sith warror but they have confermed very clearly that jedi will be a playable class here, and i quote "Choose to be a Jedi, a Sith, or from a variety of other classic Star Wars roles", they have also released concept art of jedi garb, jedi lightsabers and more, that confirms and sources it more than enough for it to be shown here, so yeah there is proof and ive sourced it. Alexsau1991 12:23, October 8, 2009 (UTC)

That's not the point, wait for it to be officially announced, like was decided with the smuggler class, see above. ShiftyPoolton 17:20, 09 October 2009 (GMT)

Where does it say above? Where exacly did this discssion about the smuggler take place? Because I can not find it, all I found is the signs of smuggler being added with out any references or sources, it was not decided above as result of discussion is was pointed out by another user that any information put on here needs to be correctly verified.

It has been officaly announced, I quote again from the swtor website "Choose to be a Jedi", they dont need to have put up all the information on there holonet. The way that smuggler was first announced is different. This page here is a list of trustworthy online sources which swtor.com is not yet on, so here is a link to a swtor artical on starwars.com which says "Players can choose to play as Jedi, Sith, or a variety of other classic Star Wars roles" if the bioware source I found is not proof enough this is undeniable proof.

  • Fact - StarWars.com is a noted reliable source
  • Fact - StarWars.com says Jedi will be a playable class in tor

That is proof, sourced more than enough for wookiepedia to list "Jedi" as a playable class on swtor.

Alexsau1991 20:15, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

I cant help but think your missing the point, jedi and sith would be playable classes we knew that ages ago but then sith was revealed as sith warrior....oh? Not just called sith? The same might happen with Jedi. It might be called Jedi Guardian or Jedi consular or just Jedi Knight or whatever, the point is, we don't know so it shouldnt be included until it's released."ShiftyPoolton 17:25, 12 October 2009 (GMT)

Here's the thing, those that actually frequent the TOR Forums all know that Jedi will have a class, the only thing we do not know is what the Jedi official name like how the Sith Class is "Sith Warrior". And to Shifty, it should be on the List, but it could either say "Jedi (Unknown)" or "Jedi (Official Name of Class unknown)" or something along those lines. Also, it's been announced that the planet Tython will be the STARTING Planet for the Jedi Class. Also, look [here] "Mixed Party Quests, If a Smuggler and Jedi group to go do the Smuggler quest line there will be quests for the Jedi to do while helping Smuggler - MMOGAmer", "Flowing Jedi/Sith Robes seen - New Planet Reveal (Pax)", "Tython - Starter Planet for Jedi". Altyrell 00:27, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Good point, i've changed it too "Unnamed Jedi Class"

The lightly hood of the name of the class will be "jedi knight" Jedi Guardian or Jedi consular would if anything be sub classes, but rather than put Jedi Knight I put just "Jedi Class" as we will know that it will be a jedi class. ShiftyPoolton you really need to learn more about how wookiepedia works - using your way of thinking we should wipe everything from the "Senate Spy" appearances section as we don't know for sure that the trailer may be lieing about the characters we see?... The hight of your argument is "Yeah there will be a jedi class but we dont know its full class name there for it should not be displayed. I am not missing the point. I dont actually see you even aiming for the point. ░▒▓ Alex | Talk ▓▒░ 22:13, October 12, 2009 (UTC)

  • Having it marked as "Unnamed Jedi Class" is absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary. The term Jedi encompasses all possible sub-sections of the Order: Master, Knight, Padawan, Guardian and Consular. If/when a particular identifier like "Jedi Master" or "Jedi Knight" is confirmed later, then it can be added at that time. Until then, Jedi is more than specific enough. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 17:42, October 27, 2009 (UTC)

1 slight problem, Bioware hasn't confirmed any other species as being playable yet, so i don't think that it is safe to say yet, Togruta may simply be Non-Playable Species but will be in the game. I think that we should wait until an official list (beyond human) is released. Because i believe that it is speculations at this point.Altyrell 00:27, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Release date

I found this on the Internet and thought i should show everyone. http://www.gamestracker.com/star-wars-the-old-republic-release-date.htm KingDonfin I am not Dumb I'll have you know I have an IQ of 19!!!!! 01:50, October 6, 2009 (UTC)

Although it's probably too early to make a call, LucasArts has a history of releasing (or trying to release) their games before Christmas, so the November 2010 date provided on the page is most likely what BioWare is aiming for. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 13:02, October 6, 2009 (UTC)
There have been countless websites who have shown release dates for swtor and later removed them, many far more credible than gamestracker (like amazon and IGN). So far Bioware have said nothing about a release date and they have said on numerous interviews that no one close to the development have or will say anything until further notice, ie anything we read unless it comes from bioware them selves is pure speculation. Alexsau1991 12:18, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
No one suggested that it sould be placed into an article. I was just making a remark discussing the release date patterns of games such as KOTOR2 (December 2004), TFU (September 2008), Republic Heroes (October 2009). The pattern suggests that LucasArts has a goal of releasing games in Autumn. Of course, the suggestion is speculative in nature, but patterns are still useful for making predictions, and I never requested for the pattern to be added to the article. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 13:43, October 8, 2009 (UTC)
You cant compare SWTOR to other lucas arts games since it is an mmo, predictions are being made (probably more accurately) by judgeing the start of the development and the start of the beta against other mmo's such as wow/lotro/swg etc. The beta is likely to last between 6-9 months which say it started beginning of December could end between May and August. There are lots of polls with speculation and alot of people have done alot of research and posted there thoughts on the TOR forums thinking when the release date will be. The fact that the beta applications are up already has supprised everyone as they wernt expecting it till mid spring(ish) time next year or later. Even if your speculation is correct I doubt the Gamestracker website has any impact or correct info to the release date. As you said we cant post anything until we know for sure, we'll just have to play the waiting game. I think how ever we could put TBA 2010 as sites such as amazon and ebay have put that up. 84.68.248.138 12:00, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
I wrote my agrument was written before I found out that they started beta testing. This is a new developement that wasn't factored into the original agrument, so yes, my stance on the release date has changed. Also, I'll going repeat myself again: I never ask for my thought to be inserted into the article. --Michaeldsuarez (Talk) (Deeds) 14:45, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah I know, and im sorry for not acknowledging you saying that it should not be inserted into the artical. Alexsau1991 20:52, October 10, 2009 (UTC)

Bioware have told us: "A novel will come out sometime around the game release time", they have told us that the date will be "27th July 2010", 2011 is over 5 months away from that which takes us far beyond what is "around the novel release time". ░▒▓ Alex | Talk ▓▒░ 14:49, November 15, 2009 (UTC)

This is most likely true, but only most likely. As long as the game itself has not yet been given an official releas date, every date is speculation, becaus a half year difference can also be "around the game release time" from another point of view. Gulomi Jomesh 20:00, November 15, 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, your right. The date should say 'TBA' though not 'Unknown'░▒▓ Alex | Talk ▓▒░ 16:27, November 16, 2009 (UTC)

Just adding to this that a post on the official forums by a developer (can be read here) that states they have a projected Spring 2011 release date for it. The Starting planets are:

In case it is worth Mentioning, that is how the Starting Planets are set-up with the Classes.Altyrell 00:25, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Here is some sources to show proof:

"IGN: Does every class start on a separate planet? Are the planets open for other classes as well?

Dallas Dickinson: I don't think we've revealed all of our planets thus far. There will be several planets that will be shared by some starting classes, but I believe that throughout the game, other classes will get to revisit or visit those planets in another way. I can't definitively answer that question without revealing more about the way our planets are structured, which we're not willing to real at this point. I'm not sure I have an answer to that; Jake, can you come up with a synthesized way of my rambling?"

Is it purely MMO with story, which means signing up for an account? Or is it not? it's something that my friend was saying it was a bit like World of Warcraft. Thanks for answering... --Jono R 11:16, December 30, 2009 (UTC)

  • It is purely a massively-multiplayer online game. No mention has been made of a single player mode by the developers, and I doubt there will be one, so yes its just like World of Warcraft in that respect, and will most likely require a monthly free like the majority of such games. • Who says a MMO can't have a overarching story? World of Warcraft has one, believe it or not, but most people don't even read the quest text so it gets lost in the rush to 80 or whatever. BioWare is simply trying to bring the storyline to the very forefront of the game, which is largely unheard of in most MMO's, mostly through using voice work and actually making the storyline involve your character in a larger way. When your friend says its going ot be just like WoW, he most likely means it will be an MMO, require a monthly fee and require a internet connection.OLIOSTER (talk) Imperial Emblem 17:07, December 30, 2009 (UTC)

Starting Planets for TOR take 2

Ok, according to the Developer Blog that was released today, "Composing the Sith Inquisitor", "And where that other Sith class starts in a position of privilege, born to lead and prepared from childhood for training at the Academy on Korriban, the Sith Inquisitor begins the game as a slave, plucked from obscurity and toil in a highly stratified, unforgiving Empire because of his Force-sensitivity and sent to become a Sith or die." will mean that the 2 Sith Classes starts on Koriban, if someone who is able to add the above Blog as a Source (because i do not know how to add it to the "Notes and Reference" section.Altyrell 19:16, February 5, 2010 (UTC)

  • No information so far. The first one was done by Jeremy Soule and the second was done by Mark Griskey, and they have used music from the first two games in their developer videos, so I would guess one, or even both of them would be the composer. OLIOSTER (talk) 03:16, February 27, 2010 (UTC)

first MMORPG to feature large-scale voice acting

This isn't a first. Everquest 2 (released 2004) had full voice acting including Christopher Lee and Jennifer Hale. Although this has been scaled back in more recent expansion content.

  • First, EQ 2 was voiced by Christopher Lee (Lucan D'Lere) and HEATHER GRAHAM (Antonia Bayle) and not Jennifer Hale. However Jennifer Hale is going to again work for BioWare and do voice work in TOR as indicated here. Second, TOR is the first Fully VOICED MMO. EQ2 had some Voice Overs but not to the extent TOR is going to have. Altyrell 02:48, March 25, 2010 (UTC)
  • I'm sorry I'll have to correct you on both of these statements. Firstly, although Jennifer Hale did not have a 'title' voice acting role in EQ2 but she does voice some characters; EQ2 has over 100 voice actors. Secondly, EQ2 did on release have 'large-scale' voice acting e.g. every npc fully voiced. Refer to IMDB for the cast list for Everquest 2.

"Deceived" Cinematic - Appearances

Two of the characters from the "Deceived" Cinematic trailer, namely Unidentified Sith Lord and Unidentified Twi'lek, seem to keep appearing on the Appearance - 'Characters'.

SinisterSamurai seems to feel that the characters in Deceived deserve a place in the characters appearances section as the two supposedly 'share a page'.

Firstly after skimming the Discussion page I have found no consensus that has made the decision that the Deceived characters are to be considered TOR characters. Secondly the Deceived trailer does not have a section of the article to its self apart from the "Behind the Scenes" section.

I draw the attention of the initial line of the article: "Star Wars: The Old Republic, abbreviated SW:TOR or simply TOR, is a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game", we don't know these two characters will be in the game (one even has a possible unconfirmed death), it is just misleading to those who read the article. Using the logic that SinisterSamurai puts forward means we should also include the Sacking of Coruscant in the appearances section as well as all the Sith and Jedi who died in the battle. Bioware has strongly reminded viewers of the trailer that it does not reflect the game at all as it not a trailer of the game, i.e. in terms of graphics and. As with the Timeline entries and the Star Wars: The Old Republic, Threat of Peace the idea of the trailer is to give those who are new to Star Wars as sense of what has happened before the game and the histories of the Sith and the Emprie & the Republic and the Jedi. To sumarise my argument, breifly, the trailer does in no way reflect the game its self and I would like to know since when have trailers been considered part of what they tease/advertise? ░▒▓ Alex | Talk ▓▒░ 22:50, March 25, 2010 (UTC)

  • Deceived is a part of the overall TOR storyline, until such time as it's depiction of events is deemed non-canon. Keep in mind that these unidentified characters also appear in promotional materials on the TOR website itself. Deceived Cinematic Trailer redirects to SW:TOR.

Although I feel that Deceived probably warrants it's own page (like Threat of Peace or Galactic Timeline), I've seen plenty who disagree. Until it retains it's own namespace, though, Wookieepedia seems to be treating the two as part of the same entity. While I definitely see where you're coming from with your removals, keep in mind that Deceived is the flashiest and most broadly attractive bit of media relating to SW:TOR available. People who are seeing the trailer will come here, and type in "THE OLD REPUBLIC" to get information on those characters and try to learn who "those badasses" are.

Long story short: If you feel you simply have to hack them away from the page, make a new habitat for these endangered Unidentifieds first. SinisterSamurai 20:09, March 27, 2010 (UTC)

Player decisions and continuity?

This game has 8 separate classes, 4 republic, 4 Sith, and each one is supposed to get it's own storyline. In previous Star Wars games, whenever the player gets a story choice, the light side one is canon. What about the Sith class stories? Is there any word on how continuity will be handled for them? Unsigned comment by (- -) (talk • contribs).

  • WP will probably handle them similarly to other games, closely following the models presented by SWG and the KOTOR series. We will likely present all possible outcomes, with plenty of ambiguous canon tags, until a decision is reached (via community consensus, or via LFL verification). SinisterSamurai 05:06, April 5, 2010 (UTC)

But, I don't have it on this computer so it'll be a bit later. It's relevant in that the article might need updating --Jono R 09:40, May 4, 2010 (UTC)

    • What is it then? Can we at least mention it somewhere? --Jono R 12:38, May 5, 2010 (UTC)
      • I don't think it's encyclopedic to include mention of something like this. Especially since it's an off-hand comment from only one interview. However, if you wanted to add a more general "game description" paragraph where you collected their key selling points (the ones that are repeatedly touched on), then that would be good. Off the top of my head, I recall them saying that the game will have crafting, raiding, cinematic combat, exploration, and story, which BioWare feels has not been done previously in MMORPG games. In the context of such a paragraph, you could add in that they're hoping to support many different playstyles, such as solo gamers. However, you'd have to source each point on that list. —fodigg BlackRebelStarbird (talk) | 13:56, May 5, 2010 (UTC)
        • Unfortunately, that isn't my expertiese. If it's like that, will we have to pay for the solo gaming? --Jono R 09:23, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

Deceived article?

While browsing, I noticed that there wasn't an actual article on the Deceived trailer. While it's been noted above on this very talk page, the issue seems to have been glossed over. I bring it up again because Deceived is unlike anything Star Wars has done before. While it functions as a trailer for TOR, and trailers don't usually receive articles of their own—why would they?—Deceived sets itself apart from what one usually thinks of when dealing with a trailer. There are no random bits of edited-together video, no catchphrases or taglines—quite simply it's a miniature movie, cinematically depicting a significant canon event (the Sacking of Coruscant) in-universe. It's scripted, voiced, and not to mention extremely well done. It's also the original source for several prominent characters including the now-named Darth Malgus, his lover, the Jedi he killed, and the bounty hunter he employed. I would create the article myself but the current lack of one suggests to me mixed feelings on the subject, and I felt it best to discuss it here first before taking said action.--Bella'Mia 04:25, May 7, 2010 (UTC)

  • I would support creating such an article, for all the reasons you listed. I was pretty much against it in the past, as I figured we could simply link to the official website, but as it functions as a single, stand-alone depiction of a significant, never-before-seen event, I can see its use on this wiki. This is, as you said, a special case, however. Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 04:35, May 7, 2010 (UTC)
    • I'm okay with it, but would have concerns on the precedent it sets. Perhaps an official distinction between "trailer" and "cinematic trailer"? Or perhaps the article for the Deceived novel could include information on the trailer? —fodigg BlackRebelStarbird (talk) | 14:01, May 7, 2010 (UTC)
    • I wouldn't say it's a special case. I figure we can expect no less than three TOR cinematic trailers from BioWare. Parts of the TOR website describe Deceived as the first cinematic trailer, and other dev comments mentioned that they follow a predictable schedule for hype releases. Deceived was first shown at E3 2009, so I'm pretty sure we'll see another one at E3 2010 next month, and a third during E3 2011, before TOR ships. If this turns out to be the case, perhaps a single segmented page would be more appropriate for the TOR Cinematic Trailers. Each segment could have a brief description and appearances section. SinisterSamurai 06:53, May 8, 2010 (UTC)
      • Article created. Something to build off of, and any changes or moving to a different name (in case "Deceived (cinematic)" is undesirable) is completely understandable. Also, the BTS section is basically a copy/paste job of what's in the main TOR article about the trailer. Any help with the necessary redirects would be most appreciated since I have absolutely no idea how those work.--Bella'Mia 09:09, May 10, 2010 (UTC)

List companion characters?

Any thoughts on listing companion characters by class? Say, in a table similar to that used for the class lists? —fodigg BlackRebelStarbird (talk) | 15:26, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Perhaps after we get more information.Altyrell 16:51, May 21, 2010 (UTC)

Wrong Reference

All the references in this article for Sith Empire link the reader to the Old Sith Empire article and while the "new" Sith Empire formed from the old Sith Empire they are not the same, there's even a different article for the new Sith Empire the game talks about. Could somebody change it? --189.247.161.99 02:51, May 29, 2010 (UTC)

If you admins are gonna lock articles and keep those of us who actually care enough to edit the article from doing so, then at least take under consideration our ideas to improve the article as it is very obvious you couldn't care less. --189.247.156.191 01:08, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
  • Hi, Mr. Anonymous User. The article is currently only Semi-Protected, meaning that it's only locked to anonymous users, and if you sign up an account, you'll should be able to fix and edit whatever mistakes you feel have been made to your heart's content. Secondly, it's not necessarily that people "couldn't care less", but that this is simply a very large Wiki and although there are many contributors here, there's lots to do and it may take a while for someone to get around to making the necessary change. If I may, I advise you to take the initiative to sign up and help with an article you clearly seem to be passionate about. Bella'Mia 02:33, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
    • I went ahead and fixed this. There was only like three incorrect links. Furthermore, I only recently fixed the Sith Empire article to remove a glut of information about the TOR Sith Empire, so no doubt whoever put those links in was confused about what to link to. As per Bella, if you want to edit something, sign up, log in, and edit. Or even better, sign up for the TOR WookieeProject, we could use more contributors. —fodigg BlackRebelStarbird (talk) | 13:39, June 2, 2010 (UTC)
      • Thanks, I went ahead and took your advice. By the way, sorry if I came on a bit strong there, but I wasn't aware you just had to become a user to be able to edit it, and since I saw nobody was responding I acted a bit like a dick, (I've noticed that is a good way to get answered right away). --SV18 00:21, June 3, 2010 (UTC)
        • An understandable misunderstanding. ;) Glad to see you've rethought your approach, and welcome to Wookieepedia. Bella'Mia 00:54, June 3, 2010 (UTC)

Species

I was just wondering, since Bioware have said that not all species will be playable by every class if we should include it in the classes area instead. So:

Smuggler:

Imperial Agent:

Someone else will have to add it, because I have no idea how to change the box thing the class is in, but this particular information is as important as the Starting Planet for example. Alexsau1991 (Talk page) File:StupidSithEmblem-Traced-TORkit.svg 21:42, June 20, 2010 (UTC)

Reading this, we should first wait for more info before adding such a table. Gulomi Jomesh 10:32, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
That provides no reason not to add species to the table. That thread is in fact my source for the info above, it tells us that not all species will be playable by every class. It tells us that there are a number of playable species for each class but they wont be the same. And prior to this we do know that all classes will be playable by humans. This is important information, as I said above like starting planets, it should be included in the table. Alexsau1991 (Talk page) File:StupidSithEmblem-Traced-TORkit.svg 16:38, June 21, 2010 (UTC)
  • I agree with Alexsau, we should put species into table, just like the classes section. It could look just like this: ShaakTi1138 07:20, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

Playable species

Also we do know, from various sources, that Human is playable by every species. Alexsau1991 (Talk page) File:StupidSithEmblem-Traced-TORkit.svg 20:00, June 25, 2010 (UTC)
Sorry - Human is playable by every class. Alexsau1991 (Talk page) File:StupidSithEmblem-Traced-TORkit.svg 21:57, July 2, 2010 (UTC)

Sernpidal?

Looking at the imdb on SWTOR, one of the roles listed is Sernipidal Colonist. Are we to assume that the planet Sernpidal (assuming the imdb listing is a typo) will be explorable? --Vitas 04:57, August 8, 2010 (UTC)

PC gamer magazine articles...

This should be updated to include SPACE COMBAT.

Also, the advanced classes for the Jedi Knight class are Guardian and Sentinel... It's all in the magazine.

You can read it here: [2] (- -) 22:00, August 9, 2010 (UTC)

Species listing?

look here: http://www.swtor-station.com/index.php

This article lists species next to classes. If a Zabrak can be either an inquisitor or a trooper, they are clearly not that strongly associated with the classes. It's just that there are some restrictions. (- -) 16:40, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

I'd like to imagine that certain races aren't restricted to only specific classes. Hopefully that won't be the case when it's released. Andreou 04:09, August 19, 2010 (UTC)

  • But you don't need to imagine it, they are, in fact, not 1 to 1 restricted! This is an inaccuracy in the article. (- -) 10:22, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

Gunslinger, Powertech, Vanguard & Wizard

Are holding pages going to be built for these four SW:TOR classes? You should at least built redirects for them that can be changed over to navigable pages later once usable data comes in. That Vanguard link, it doesn't go to a class page it goes to a disambiguation page, one of which has been changed to the Corellian Defender. --Basique 23:04, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

  • All AC pages have been updated. They are no longer stubs, but obviously they will need expansion as more information is released. —fodigg BlackRebelStarbird (talk) | 13:03, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

Better description of the game?

Look at the wikipedia article for The Old Republic, it has a much better explanation of what the game is, and how it is DIFFERENT than other MMOs:

"Members of the two main factions—the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire—will have different moralities; the project's key focus is to differentiate between the player's faction and morality. Each faction will contain different classes, each with a distinct backstory and a branching storyline affected by players' moral choices. Classes will also be exclusive to one faction or the other... Although each class will have a distinct storyline, they will be integrated with the game's overall arc. The Old Republic will also use cover mechanics for the first time in MMO gameplay... Unlike traditional MMOs, classes in the Old Republic are not limited to the typical archetypes (healer, tank, melee dps, ranged etc...). Bioware has stated that each class will support on-the-fly customization that will allow any class to fill any role within a party, eliminating the need to spam channels in search of a specific class needed to fill a role within a group, which can delay or outright stop parties from completing group quests. While each class in The Old Republic will still favor a certain play style (be it ranged, melee, or otherwise), customization combined with companion characters will make for having a class be able to tackle many different situations, with or without the support of other player characters, and without requiring specific other classes in order to move forward."

Also, SPACE COMBAT... (- -) 10:20, August 22, 2010 (UTC)

Footage proving zabrak trooper

Watch this video, here are some Zabrak Troopers... [3]

Here is EVIDENCE that the classes aren't 1 to 1 restricted, just that there are SOME restrictions... Parts of the article regarding species should be re-formatted. (- -) 03:16, August 24, 2010 (UTC)

"For example we announced the Zabrak-Sith-Inquisitor but for people who were attending gamescom it is also known that there is also a playable Zabrak-Trooper. So that is one of the species that can be played on both sides."... "The reason why we have revealed all the species in class combination is that we want to make sure that there is enough out there for people be really happy." -Sean Dahlburg

This should help to fix the article up.(- -) 00:21, August 26, 2010 (UTC)

Playable Species

Ok, I have looked at the different times this topic has been brought up here on the discussion page, and my question is not answered. As of this posting, there are 8 playable species. That sounds like it could be a complete list. I really hope not, though, because all the species on it are basically humans with decoration, like the horns of a Zabrak or the lekku of a Twi'lek. I was hoping to see some more non-humanoid playable species, like we saw in SWG - Mon Calamari, Bothans, Wookiees, Sullustans, Ithorians, etc., or even some that were not in SWG - Kel Dor, Nautolan, Duros, etc. I very much wanted to play the game as a Calamarian. So, is this really, truly, and definitely the final playable species list, or is there a possibility of additions? Mellophonius 05:51, October 12, 2010 (UTC)

Updating Sources/References?

Should we be making an effort to update old article sources as the holonet expands and we get official sources on the "SWTOR.com" website (e.g., The Holonet, news items, dev blogs)? We might lose knowing whoever first broke certain information for posterity, but on the other hand that's not what this wiki is meant to track. I think it would make a better article to have fewer, more consistent sources that come from an official site. What initially raised this question for me was when they began updating the class holonet pages to include more information, such as advanced classes. In fact, a single "Fan Friday" post—this one details each advanced class—would be sufficient as a source for all class specializations. Is that something that should be worked into the article in place of multiple other sources? Obviously not every interview link can be abandoned at the moment, but the trend toward more information reaching SWTOR.com will continue. —fodigg BlackRebelStarbird (talk) | 13:00, October 27, 2010 (UTC)

SWTOR Date is confirmed?=

While I was looking on the Game.UK website (The largest gaming store in the United Kingdom) I came across a SWTOR release date. The fourth of March, 2011. The link is here if you want proof . Game has been right about all of the incoming Star Wars Games in the past, could this be correct??? KingDonfin I am not Dumb! I'll have you know I have an IQ of 19!!!!!

The game has a blog on Facebook. Some blogposts introduces new features like what your partners can do while you fight. Shouldn't we update the page?

New Features

I don't know why but the wiki page is not showing any features besides character and places. The crew made a video revealing the crew skills so why aren't the features there on page?

Wookieepedia focuses on lore, not on gameplay. For more about SWTOR gameplay, visit SWTOR Wiki. Ausir(talk) 03:24, February 3, 2011 (UTC)

Unnecessarily Long Page

Does this article necessarily need to display an exhaustive list of everything and anything that appeared in released media pertaining to this game? Like a list of "sentient species" or "weapons & technology"? Granted, some of the things mentioned in the aforementioned categories may be appearing for the first time, but imagine the length of the page once the game is released and content regarding the plot, such as a synopsis for both factions, and new media, like new screenshots, trailers, books, comics etc., in addition to the vast amounts of additions to existing categories like new NPCs, mobs, locations, quests.. Well, I do hope you catch the drift. This page, simply put, is exceedingly long. Does someone new to the Star Wars franchise need to know that the "Sith Emperor" appears in a hologram? Or that, surprise of surprises, the Jedi Order makes an appearance? Before you decide to flame me for criticizing how things are done, as a point of reference, please do take a look at World of Warcraft's or Dragon Age Origin's wiki entry on their respective game universe wikis. Note that there is no exhaustive list of every single item, being, quest, weapon, armor etc. Just a simple, brief overview of what the game is about, and a few things of note. Very clean, uncluttered and you get all the important information without having to sift through tons of information. I apologize if anyone is offended by my phrasing but that is simply how I see it, I am entitled to my opinion, no? Everyone is entitled to theirs, provided they do not impinge on other's entitlements. Cheers! Songjin 15:40, March 21, 2011 (UTC)

  • It sounds like you're talking about the appearances section, which you can easily hide by clicking the word [Hide] next to By type. OLIOSTER (talk) 15:43, March 21, 2011 (UTC)
  • (edit conflict) All Wookieepedia OOU articles should have an appearances list. They are contained in a template—which is hidden by default—so it doesn't cause the page to get /that/ long. Not only does the list make the article comprehensive, but it is also good when searching for where a subject has appeared. One can use the whatlinkshere feature and see, aha!, it's linked from this page, so it must appear in the game. 1358 (Talk) 15:46, March 21, 2011 (UTC)
  • Thank you OLIOSTER (talk) but I don't see a hide button although I would prefer that it auto-hides by default; is that possible? I think that would improve the readability of the article as a whole. As it stands, I find the article hideously long rather than comprehensive. I'm curious to know what your opinion is, 1358 (Talk) regarding the point I made about the future of the article once the game is released. What would happen if you use the whatlinkshere feature then? (Another question: do you actually use the whatlinkshere feature when you visit other pages? Sincere curiosity, no sarcasm, just in case I am misconstrued) Did you check out the example wiki-entries of those 2 rather notable games? I chose World of Warcraft because it is the "most-subscribed MMORPG" in the world and Dragon Age, well because I'm playing it at the moment and the game was released 2 years ago, making the wiki, in my opinion, somewhat matured, in terms of information pertaining to the game, making it quite reliable for finding stuff like help with quests among other things. Note: I am not comparing the article to the wiki article on the game due to the differences of purpose between Wookieepedia & Wikipedia, but I do find that the wikipedia article is clear, concise, and it is kept simple, possibly due to the dearth of information which will hopefully be corrected once the game is released. In my opinion, this article should be, well, simply an article written simply to tell the reader what the game is about, and not in any way should it become an index of hyperlinks, needless information about "Unidentified So-and-so's". Songjin 11:03, March 22, 2011 (UTC)
    • Appearances section can be hidden, although apparently it doesn't currently work with the new wikia skin. Also, many of us (including I and Xd) uses Special:WhatLinksHere, it's very important tool for me personally. I'm against cutting information out just because there's much of it, it's all about presenting it in readable and usable way. (: –Tm_T (Talk) 11:19, March 22, 2011 (UTC)
      • Ah, I see. I just found the button, but it disappears when I refresh. Minor nuisance haha. Well, anyway I've just discovered an entire article discussing this very topic. I shall take my views there. Or not. Thanks for the replies :) Songjin 16:49, March 22, 2011 (UTC)

3.4 Removed unverified info

Apparently user:Dark Lord Trayus feels that Cyborgs are going to be a playable race. They cite PC gamer as a reliable source for this. I checked PC gamer and they say nothing about this. Then I did some thinking and if the game was introducing another playable race, they would have something about it on their official web page. So I went over there and saw not a peep about it. Plus, if you look at Star Wars history, as per this wiki, you can see that Cyborgs have never been considered their own race. None of this makes sense and to me it seems as if this user is trying to push in something they want that no reference supports. Please stop trying to re-introduce cyborgs as a new or existing race.
