- "You have brought shame to your family."
- ―Udi Dis's father to Udi Dis, while on Talor.
Talor was a tropical astronomical object in the Outer Rim Territories's Varada sector that was home to the Talortai, a species strong in the Force that was once massacred by the Sith. One Talortai, Udi Dis, grew up in the tropics of Talor, but was later exiled from his home by his father and the ruling council, with Dis eventually joining the Nihil and bringing only his wingblades with him from his home. In 231 BBY, while in the presence of the Shrikarai called the Great Leveler in the Shrine below the planet Rystan, Dis experienced hallucinations of Talor, including of the day he was exiled.
Description[]
Talor was an astronomical object[3] located in a star system of the same name[2] with a single sun.[3] On the edge of the Unknown Regions,[1] it lay within the Varada sector[2] of the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories and was situated in grid square M-20 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] Talor was tropical, and one could live there without ever experiencing cold.[3]
History[]
- "He is Talortai. A species strong with the Force."
- ―Marchion Ro on Udi Dis, a Talortai from Talor
Over four thousand seasons before 231 BBY,[4] an army of Sith descended upon Talor while riding dragons and slaughtered the native Talortai people in the genocide remembered as the great cull. In response to the event, a Talortai council of elders which ruled for generations deliberately kept the Talortai population small and penalized non-conformity, which to them included use of the Force, despite the Talortai being a naturally Force-sensitive species.[3]
Udi Dis joined the Nihil (insignia pictured) after being exiled from Talor.
During the High Republic Era, the Talortai Udi Dis was raised in the tropics of Talor.[3] At some point by 231 BBY,[4] Dis was left in disgrace by his people for using the Force. In his father's nest on Talor, Dis's father told him that he had brought shame on his family, called him a witch, and told him to leave. According to Dis's later hallucinations of the event, in response to his father's words, Dis slashed his father's throat with one of his wingblade weapons, killing him. The elders then drove Dis from his home and exiled him from Talor while repeatedly calling him a witch. The only items Dis brought with him from Talor were the wingblades he carried. After being exiled, Dis joined the Nihil pirate organization.[3]
In 231 BBY,[4] Dis accompanied Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro to the planet Rystan, where Ro's cousin Kufa led the pair down into a cave leading to a shrine. During the journey, Dis recalled Talor's history, his life there, and its council, considering them cowards. He also mentally used "Talor's name" as an exclamation. Once they reached the Shrine, Dis was overcome by hallucinations of Talor and its sun due to the presence of the Great Leveler,[3] a being belonging to the Shrikarai, a species commonly known as the Nameless that preyed upon Force-sensitives.[5] The visions made Dis feel as if he were experiencing the day he was shamed by his father and exiled from Talor at the same time as he was experiencing being in the Shrine on Rystan. After Dis retreated from the area of the Shrine where the Leveler was frozen in the ice and successfully fought off shrine droids protecting it, the visions of Talor faded. However, Ro killed Dis immediately afterward, having served his purpose of proving that the Leveler's power was real.[3]
Inhabitants[]
- "The bones are already mending."
"Incredible."
"Not for the Talortai. We heal quick." - ―Udi Dis and Marchion Ro, on the former's injury
Talor was inhabited by the native Talortai, an avian sentient species that had feathers, claws, and beaks and lived in nests. The Talortai were naturally strong in the Force and had regenerative abilities that allowed them to heal quickly, though it was unconfirmed whether or not the Force was responsible for this ability. The Force also gave all members of the species an innate sense of direction and a talent for navigating the galaxy with precision. Despite this, the ruling council of elders on Talor purposely kept their species ignorant to their Force abilities and punished or exiled anyone who used them or otherwise did not conform. Because of this, the Talortai Udi Dis believed the Talortai residing on Talor lived a meager existence.[3]
