Tao was a continental planet with rich nature and tradition,[2] situated in the Outer Rim Territories.[1] The planet had struggled to modernize despite its rich resources, and, during the Imperial Era, accepted Galactic Empire occupation in exchange for industrial advancement. Tao's natural environment suffered as a result of the Imperial industry, and its inhabitants became frustrated with Imperial oppression. Several[2] Lepi,[1] a species not native to Tao, were enslaved by the Empire during this period.[2] The Empire also set up forced labor camps on the planet.[4]
Boss Yasaburō, the head of a powerful clan, decided to retaliate against the Imperial oppression. However, his daughter Ochō joined the Empire.[2]
