- "It was I who allowed the alliance to know the location of the shield generator. It is quite safe from your pitiful little band. An entire legion of my best troops await them. Oh...I'm afraid the deflector shield will be quite operational when your friends arrive."
- ―Palpatine to Luke Skywalker, regarding the vulnerability of the Endor shield generator.
Tempest Force was an Imperial Army, Stormtrooper Corps and Navy joint-task unit stationed on Endor's forest moon during 3–4 ABY. Led by Colonel Dyer, Commander Igar, and Major Hewex, the unit was comprised of some of the Imperial Military's best troops, with the total force strength being comparable to a legion within the Stormtrooper Corps. It was tasked with guarding the shield generator bunker on the Forest Moon from the Alliance to Restore the Republic Endor strike team. To train and prepare for the operation, Tempest Force was used in the subjugation of Kashyyyk.
Battle of Endor
Tempest Force's mission was to defend the Imperial installation on the moon.
During the Battle of Endor, they were supplemented by additional legions of stormtroopers. Tempest Force was known to consist of at least one AT-AT, at least 39 AT-STs, stormtroopers, Navy troopers, and many scout trooper patrols. The Galactic Emperor Palpatine also implied, when revealing to Luke Skywalker onboard the Second Death Star that the Rebel forces were walking into a trap, that Tempest Force's overall size was comparable to that of a legion.
