- "In all the galaxy, there is no greater force than true love. Love sustains, nourishes and protects. Without love, the galaxy would be cold and empty. Your bond lends fire to the stars, dissolving the darkness.
Do you take this man as your husband, to cherish for the rest of your days?
Do you take this woman as your wife, to honor in word and deed?
May your love transcend time, distance and all barriers between. The Terms of Bonding are complete. You may now kiss."
- ―CGR-80 recites the Terms of Bonding
The Terms of Bonding was a marriage ceremony utilized around the time of the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. While holding hands, the groom and bride were asked in succession if they accepted their partner as their spouse. Ceremony, Gala, and Ritual droids such as CGR-80 were programmed with the Terms and were capable of performing marriages by presiding over the ceremony.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Terms of Bonding first appear in the conversation "A Modest Proposal" with Doc, a companion character for the Jedi Knight class in the 2011 BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. If female Knights accept Doc's proposal of marriage, he will summon CGR-80 and the droid will marry him and the player.
