When pirates invade Tenoo, the Jedi fight back.
Plot summary[]
The obstacle course[]
At the training grounds of the Tenoo Jedi Temple, the Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar, Lys Solay and Nubs navigate a large revolving obstacle structure in order to reach a beacon. Working together, they climb to the top of the structure and retrieve the beacon. Their progress is watched by Nash Durango, RJ-83, Padawan Wes Vinik, R0-M1 and several other Jedi younglings. Vinik says that Jedi Master Zia Zaldor Zanna will be pleased with the trio's progress when she returns form her mission. Nubs hugs his friends.
Sellacc's grand plan[]
Meanwhile in the space above Tenoo, Sellaccc Orryak assembles a fleet consisting of other pirates including Captain Blackbolt and the Comet Runners, who have accepted her invitation via their holoprojectors to join forces with the Ganguls to expel the Jedi from the Bri'ahl sector. Corr Taldaan and Blackbolt express their eagerness to support Orrayk's plan. With the adult Jedi away on a mission, Orryak believes that the time is right to strike. Her plan is to seize the Tenoo Jedi Temple in order to demonstrate that the Ganguls are the ultimate pirate power. She orders her pirates to prepare to attack.
After dismissing the other pirates, Orryak contacts Taborr Val Dorn via holoprojector, offering him the last chance to join their strike against the Jedi. Taborr replies that he will never join the Ganguls and is not interested in the Jedi. After he terminates his connection, Orryak orders NX-88 to jam all comm signals on Tenoo to prevent the Jedi from calling for help.
The pirate invasion[]
On the grounds of the Tenoo Jedi Temple, the Jedi trainees watch as the Rathtar's Revenge and other pirate starships descend into the planet's atmosphere. Linh and Zotti react with fear and hug each other. Bren asks Vinik who are those ships. Vinik explains that they are pirates, who have brought reinforcements. Solay says she has a bad feeling about this. Three shuttles descend from the Rathtar's Revenge, carrying several pirates who abseil into the grounds of the temple. Led by Orryak and her lieutenants Jooro Jarrot and Toda-Joh, the pirates surround the Jedi younglings and Vinik.
Orryak says it is convenient that her Jedi foes are all in one place. Vinik jokes about meeting Orryak again but the Ganguls reveal their plan to evict the Jedi from their temple and occupy Tenoo. Brightstar is defiant, telling the Ganguls and their allies that the Tenoo Jedi temple is their home despite the numbers and starships arrayed against them. Brightstar vows that he and his fellow Jedi will defend their temple and Tenoo. The pirates draw their weapons and the Jedi trainees draw their lightsabers in response. A skirmish breaks out with Orryak charging at Brightstar with her electrostaff before dueling with Vinik.
Jarrot fights against Solay and Nubs with his vibro-ax. Outnumbered, Vinik orders the Jedi younglings to retreat and uses the Force to Force push Orryak against some other pirates. At the advice of Brightstar, Vinik leads the Jedi younglings into the forest. Jarrot and Toda-Joh celebrate their victory against the Jedi and believe they have captured the Temple. Orryak is not satisfied and tasks Jarrot and Joh with hunting down and capturing the Jedi trainees.
Jedi retreat[]
Meanwhile, the Jedi trainees retreat to Tanglevine Base. Brightstar explains that he and Djovi Resmia discovered the base recently and that it used to be Kaliah Kublop's secret headquarters a long time ago. Brightstar believes that they should be save here and brings a lamp. Nubs comforts Linh and Zotti, who asks what they are going to do since the pirates have taken over the temple. Linh asks if they will have to leave Tenoo but Brightstar says that they won't leave Tenoo and that Jedi never give up. Vinik agrees with the younger Jedi and says that he will call Master Zia now. However, he discovers that the pirates are jamming their comlinks.
Just then, Brightstar spots an old comm station and suggests they use it to call for help. Durango agrees and explains that the comm stations use a different signal than comlinks, which the pirates won't be able to jam. She and RJ-83 turn it on but the comm station quickly breaks down from years of lack of maintenance. Durango says that she and RJ-83 can fix the comm station but it will take time. At the captured Tenoo Jedi temple, Jarrot and Joh tell Orryak that they have lost track of the Jedi. Orryak responds that without capturing the Jedi, taking the Jedi Temple is hollow. She decides that drastic action is needed to deter the Jedi from ever returning to Tenoo.
Kai's message[]
Back at Tanglevin Base, Durango manages to repair the comm station but warns the Jedi that everyone including the pirates will be able to pick up their signal. Solay fears that the pirates will find them if they call Master Zia for help. Brightstar says this a risk they have to take. Durango gives Brightstar the honor of making the distress call. The youngling doesn't think he is worthy of that responsibility and suggests that Vinik take the lead. Vinik responds that Brighsttar is a natural leader and that people will listen when he speaks.
Brightstar switches on the comm station and tells Master Zia and other people that pirates have taken over the Tenoo Jedi Temple and that they need help. He says that the Jedi believe that even in the darkest of times, the light is worth fighting for. Solay and Nubs flank him while the other Jedi hold each other's arms. Brightstar also calls on friends of the Jedi to come and help them defeat the invading pirates. He emphasizes that they are their only hope.
Brightstar's message is picked up by Taborr's gang. EB-3 tells Taborr that the Ganguls' plan seems to have succeeded while Pord says something in the Gamorrean language. Taborr is unwilling to help but EB-3 says that if they help the Jedi defeat the Ganguls, then they could be the greatest pirates in the sector.
Captives of the Ganguls[]
Later, the younglings wonder if Master Zia received Kai's message. Shortly later, Orryak and her army of pirates burst into Tanglevine Base, having heard Kai's speech. Orryak thanks Brightstar for leading the pirates to them. Outnumbered and outgunned, Brightstar and his fellow Jedi surrender.
Toda-Joh and Jarrot lock the Jedi prisoners behind energy shields in cells aboard the Rathtar's Revenge. Joh confiscates their lightsabers and puts them in a chest. Nubs protests but Orryak reveals that she wants the younglings and their friends to watch as she destroys the Tenoo Jedi Temple. Brightstar and the Jedi react with horror. Orryak explains that destroying the Jedi Temple would mean that the Jedi would have to leave the sector and never return. Toda-Joh and Jarrot laugh while Vinik protests.
Orryak orders three armored security droids to watch over the Jedi prisoners in their cells. Vinik slams his fist against the energy shield. After breathing deeply, he regains his composure and advises the younglings to to look for a way out. Brightstar is despondent but Solay and Nubs encourage him and the others. Solay tells him that they have the Force on their side and are fighting for good. She tells Brightstar that he has more hope than anyone he knows while Nubs hugs him. Encouraged, Brightstar resolves to find a way out of their cell.
Reinforcements[]
Just then, Raxlo arrives in his harvester and begins shooting a nearby pirate ship. They are joined by Ace Kallisto and JNX-09 ("Jinx"), who are flying Ace's ship. Durango's parents Ceeli and Kryys Durango also arrive in the Crimson Firehawk and join the fight against the pirates. A jedi shuttle lands in the hangar and Padawan Celesta Kami exits the vessel and dispatches the three security droids with her lightsaber. Kami frees the younglings.
Vinik reveals that he and Kami are best friends who trained together as younglings. She explains that she is now based on Batuu with Master Carver Drow. When Solay asks if Master Drow is here, Kami explains that he is with Master Zia on another mission but that she brought Princess Inaya, who exits the starship. Durango hugs her while Kami compliments her as an amazing pilot. Inaya gathers everyone aboard her starship and says that she will take the Jedi down to the temple to stop the Ganguls. She explains that the Firehawk will follow them there.
The two starships land and dispatch the passengers. Inaya explains that she will rejoin the sky battle to drive away the Gangul starships. She wishes that the Force will be with them. Durango says that she and RJ-83 will join their moms aboard the Firehawk. Kami tells Vinik to accompany Inaya to fight the pirate ships and promises to look after the younglings at the temple. She tells Vinik that they need him in the air. The Durangos, Vinik and Inaya rejoin the air battle while Brightstar resolves to stop the pirates from destroying the Tenoo temple.
Fight for the temple[]
Meanwhile, the Ganguls lead their pirate vassals in planting explosive charges throughout the Tenoo Jedi Temple. Brightstar orders the invaders to leaver. Orryak expresses frustration that the Jedi have escaped their prison. Nubs taunts her in Poobian. Jarrot reveals the pirates' plan to blow up the temple with explosives. Orryak orders her pirate crew to charge at the Jedi. At Brightstar's signal, the Jedi combine their Force powers and Force push the pirates, knocking them to the ground. Solay vows to recapture their lightsabers but Joh is defiant.
Orryak vows to destroy the Temple and engages Brightstar in a fight. Zotti and Kami proceed to remove explosives while Nubs chases Toda-John and the lightsabers up the staircase. Jarrot attempts to block Solay with his vibro-ax but she Force jumps over him and throws him downstairs. Together, Solay and Nubs overpower Toda-Joh and retrieve the stolen lightsabers. They toss the lightsabers to Bren, Linh and Zotti, who fight the pirates.
Meanwhile, Orryak succeeds in knocking Brightstar to the ground. Before she can finish him off, Solay throws Brightstar his lightsaber. He Force jumps over the Trandoshan pirate leader and retrieves his second lightsaber. Their fight is interrupted by Resmia, who tells Brightstar that they and the others have disarmed the pirates' explosive charges. Brightstar tells Orryak that she has lost and calls upon her to surrender. The defiant pirate captain replies there is more than one way to destroy a Jedi Temple and orders NX-88 to prepare the claws aboard the Rathtar's Revenge.
Claws of the Rathtar's Revenge[]
Under Orryak's orders, NX-88 deploys several large grappling claws. Meanwhile, Vinik and R0-M1 struggle to shake off a pursuing pirate ship that is being piloted by Gossi and an Aqualish pirate. However, Durango in the Firehawk shots down Gotti's starship, saving Vinik's Jedi Vector. Durango flies the Firehawk with RJ-83 and her mother Ceeli. Durango resolves to take out the Rathtar's Revenge but Vinik warns that there are too many pirate starfighters. Meanwhile, Captain Blackbolt and his crew TW-D1D and TW-D1M manage to shoot Inaya's ship but her ship is protected by deflector shields. She worries about how long her ship can hold off the attack.
Inaya, Vinik and the Durangos react with shock and horror as the Rathtar's Revenge begins deploying three grappling claws. On the ground, Orryak and her pirates retreat from the temple with the Jedi following them. Orryak orders NX-88 to attack the temple with its claws. One of the claws takes out a balcony garden while a second latches onto another balcony. The third claw strikes the citadel beneath the Tenoo tree growing out of the top of the temple. The Jedi react with horror and dismay as the claws begin damaging the structure around the Jedi symbol.
Taborr to the rescue[]
However, the pirates are interrupted by Taborr's ship Iron Talon, which opens fire on the cables holding the grappling claws, causing them to snap off. Taborr praises Pord for taking out the cables. The Iron Talon flies around the temple. Brightstar recognizes Taborr's ship and is relieved that his old friend has come to help. Bren asks whose ship is that. Aboard the Iron Talon, Pord and EB-3 cheer while Taborr vows to take out the Rathtar's Revenge. Orryak reacts with rage while Brightstar reiterates the Jedi demand that the pirates leave. The pirates and Jedi engage in a ground skirmish.
Meanwhile, the Iron Talon launches a strafing run on the Rathtar's Revenge, taking out several gun emplacements and damaging the capital ship. The Durangos join the attack on the Rathtar's Revenge, with Kryys Durango manning the top turret cannon and blasting the large pirate ship. Taborr tells Pord to focus on taking out the Rathtar's Revenge's engines. Vinik and R0-M1's Jedi Vector joins the attack, delivering the killing blow that destroys the pirate ship's engines. The Rathtar's Revenge plunges into the surrounding forest and crashes with a loud bang.
Jedi triumph[]
Captain Blackbolt and his droids retreat as do Taldaan and the remaining Comet Runners. Brightstar faces down Orryak and demands that she surrender with her pirate allies retreating. Orryak is enraged and continues fighting Brightstar, telling him that more pirates will fight the Jedi. She manages to gain the upper hand over Brighstar but his friends Solay and Nubs come to his aid. The Jedi vow never to give up.
Just then, an unseen Force throws Orryak to the ground, scattering Toda-Joh and Jarrot. The Jedi turn to discover that Masters Zia and Drow have arrived to join the battle. Zia is initially concerned about the safety of her younglings but is pleased to see that they have responded well to the pirate attack. The Jedi disarm Orryak and her remaining pirates. Drow says that he is proud of his Padawan Celeste Kami. A dizzy Orryak collapses to the ground.
Reconciliation and renewal[]
Following the Battle of Tenoo, Brightstar, Solay and Nubs meet with Cyrus Vuundir/Taborr aboard his ship Iron Talon. Vuundir has removed his helmet. He asks the Jedi younglings if they are going to say that they are proud of him for choosing good. Speaking in Poobian, Nubs says this is not the case but they wanted to thank him for helping them out. Vuundir says that he did not do it for them but because they had a common enemy in the Ganguls, who posed a threat to the people of his homeworld of Vuundalla. Vuundir vows to be the greatest pirate in the sector. While Brightstar is disappointed that Vuundir still chooses to be a pirate, he thanks him for choosing the side of good today. Brightstar says that he knows that Vuundir has good in him. Vuundir says don't get used to it before departing in his starship.
Shortly later, they are joined by Durango who remarks that the Tenoo Jedi Temple is pretty tough. An octopus-shaped repair droid begins mending the cracks. Nubs speaks in Poobian. Brightstar tells his friends that Orryak was right in saying that there would always be more pirates, thieves and other villains. Solay says they will face them all together. Nubs expresses agreement. Durango says that she heard that Jedi never give up while RJ-83 beeps in Binary. The five of them gaze at the damaged temple undergoing repairs.
