The Cairns was a region of Hutt Space. The hyperlane known as the Dead Road traveled through the region.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- "I remembered looking at the map in the back of The Lord of the Rings and wondering about the parts of Mordor Frodo and Sam never visited, and tried to summon up that feeling. Hence a minor trade route became the Dead Road, and a region of Hutt Space became the Cairns."
- ―Jason Fry
The Cairns were created for The Essential Atlas, a 2009 reference book co-authored by Jason Fry and Daniel Wallace.[1] In a 2009 article published on Suvudu, Fry noted that the creation of the Cairns was inspired by a map included with[2] J. R. R. Tolkien's novel[3] The Lord of the Rings. The map in question illustrated the land of Mordor, including areas not visited by the novel's protagonists Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee.[2]
